Saoirse Ronan rocks 60s structured minidress at BFI Fest

She’s known for her porcelain skin and delicate, modern beauty.

But Saoirse Ronan went all Swinging Sixties as she hit the red carpet at the On Chesil Beach premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on Sunday.

The 23-year-old actress rocked a structured minidress for the red carpet event which showed off her long legs, seemingly taking inspiration from the decade the film is set in.

60s siren: Actress Saoirse Ronan, 23, looked glamorous in a structured minidress as she posed on the red carpet for the premiere of On Chesil Beach at the BFI London Film Festival

Saiorse rocked the smart dress for the red carpet, which was blue tweed with white collar and cuffs.

The Brooklyn star teamed the dress with a pair of black heels with a quirky ankle strap embellishment, as well as stylish drop earrings.

Saiorse kept her hair and makeup simple for the ensemble, with her hair tied back and natural make-up accentuating her delicate features.

Saoirse was joined at the premiere by co-star Billy Howle, who plays her love interest Edward Mayhew in the film, which tells the story of two newlyweds on their wedding night in the early 1960s, on the eve of the sexual revolution.

Billy looked every inch the dapper gentleman in a smart checked suit, as he smiled for selfies with fans.

Also rocking the checked look was co-star Samuel West, who wore a grey checked-style suit as he posed for snaps.

The son of acting legends Timothy West and Prunella Scales plays Geoffrey Ponting, Saoirse’s character Florence’s father, in the film.

Saoirse recently told The Daily Mail about her character in the drama, based on the acclaimed novel-of-the-same-name by Ian McEwan, who also wrote the film’s screenplay.

She explained that the lack of knowledge about sex at the time led to Florence and Edward being unable to consummate their marriage.

She said: ‘It’s set right on the cusp of the sexual revolution; but Florence and Edward, who we play, haven’t been able to talk freely about sex. And they haven’t understood why they’ve had this reaction’.
