Marouane Fellaini will miss Manchester United’s clash with bitter rivals Liverpool at Anfield next weekend after being ruled out for at least two weeks with knee ligament damage.
The news is a blow for United who are already without Paul Pogba in central midfield, while Michael Carrick has also been out of action.
Fellaini, who has been in some of the best form of his Old Trafford career, is also set to miss the away games against Benfica in the Champions League, Huddersfield in the Premier League and Swansea in the EFL Cup.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that he will be fit to return for the following Premier League fixtures against Tottenham and Chelsea.
Fellaini was hurt in Belgium’s World Cup qualifying win over Bosnia on Saturday night and limped off in the 23rd minute after landing awkwardly.
The Belgian FA confirmed Sunday that he had damaged the medial ligament in his left knee and would be out for ‘a couple of weeks’.
The pitch in Sarajevo was very muddy after two days of heavy rain, and the Belgians believe that contributed to Fellaini’s injury.
Fellaini will return to Manchester on Monday to be assessed by United’s medical staff but may rejoin the Belgian squad to begin his rehabilitation.
Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne admitted that English clubs will not be happy that their players were made to go ahead with the game.
‘The pitch was dangerous,’ said De Bruyne. ‘But we knew that since Friday. We had trained and we knew what was waiting for us.
‘I can understand that they are not going to be happy in England when they see that match on TV. There are so many rules for FIFA and UEFA. But it is what it is and you have to play them.’
Fellaini’s United teammate Romelu Lukaku missed the game with an ankle injury but has an outside chance of playing against Cyprus in Brussels on Tuesday.
