A landlord has been slammed online for advertising a ‘jail-like’ room with two mattresses on the floor for rent – and listing getting your ‘own key’ as one of the top benefits. 

In the listing, the man said he was looking for one or two tenants to fill the second bedroom in his apartment in Chatswood, 20 minute’s from the Sydney CBD, for $300 a week. 

The compact room has two single mattresses on the floor with a couple of $20 Kmart bedside tables and some of the top selling points in the ad included a ‘built-in wardrobe’, ‘own key’, ‘not overcrowded’ and ‘five minutes to Westfield’.

After advertising the pint-sized room on Facebook, the post received a barrage of comments mocking the pricey pad and likening it to a prison cell. 

‘Looks like a jail cell ffs,’ one person wrote while another sarcastically said: ‘You even get a key!’.  

‘I think you are asking too much. Jail looks like a better option,’ a third person joked.

Going for $300 a week, the tiny two-person room includes all utilities, has a three-month minimum stay and requires a bond worth two weeks rent upfront.   

‘Wow so cheap, I’ll pay $1000 for this rent with another person wow,’ one renter quipped. 

‘What the actual kind of slum lord s*** is this?’ asked another.
