30 Rock joke alluded to Harvey Weinstein allegations

Tina Fey’s 30 Rock TV show had joked about Harvey Weinstein taking advantage of actresses five years before his sexual harassment allegations publicly surfaced.

The joke featured in a season six episode of the hit NBC show, which aired back in 2012.

Jane Krakowski’s character Jenna Maroney was speaking out about how she wasn’t afraid of anyone in show business and specifically mentioned the embattled movie mogul by name.

‘Oh please, I’m not afraid of anyone in show business,’ she tells Tracy Morgan’s character Tracy Jordan.

‘I turned down intercourse with Harvey Weinstein on no less than three occasions… out of five.’

The show also joked about Bill Cosby back in 2009 regarding sex assault allegations leveled against him.

‘You’ve got a lot of nerve getting on the phone with me after what you did to my Aunt Paulette!’ a character hit back at someone pretending to be Cosby.

A co-showrunner confirmed years later that it was an intentional reference to the accusations of sexual abuse against Cosby that were made by dozens of women.

Social media users were quick to point out 30 Rock’s prior jokes after a New York Times bombshell report last week revealed Weinstein’s long record of misconduct.

The report said he had reached at least eight settlements with women including one who said she was coerced into giving him a massage while he was naked.

Weinstein is said to have asked a young Ashley Judd to watch him shower and paid Rose McGowan $100,000 under a settlement for an incident shortly before her breakthrough role in ‘Scream’.

One Twitter user wrote: ’30 Rock was way ahead of the game with a Harvey Weinstein is a sleaze joke yrs ago, proving my theory that Tina Fey can see the future.

‘Damn! Just caught a Harvey Weinsteain is a predator joke on 30 Rock. They were ahead of everything,’ another tweeted.

’30 Rock called out bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein before it was popular. All hail.’

Weinstein is on indefinite leave from the company he co-founded while an internal investigation into numerous sexual harassment allegations against him is completed, The Weinstein Co.’s board of directors announced Friday.
