While we all love a good quick meal or snack, there are often some very simple things you can do to drastically boost the nutrition of it.
So to help people boost their health, Australian nutritionist Fiona Tuck recently shared her top tips for making any meal healthier and more nutritious.

STORE LEMON JUICE IN CRACKED EGG SHELLS
While this sounds bizarre, this is a simple way to increase the calcium and minerals in your diet.
‘Squeeze fresh lemon juice into empty cracked egg shells and store in the fridge overnight,’ Fiona said.
‘The acid in the juice leaches out the minerals from the egg shells. Use in warm water in the morning to boost digestion and aid nutrient absorption.’

ADD OLIVE OIL TO VEGGIES FOR MORE ANTIOXIDANTS
One of the most simple things you can do is add extra virgin olive oil to your cooked veggies.
‘Add a dash of extra virgin olive oil to cooked vegetables to increase antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits,’ Fiona said.
‘The oil also aids the absorption of fat soluble nutrients from your veggies.’

ADD LEMON OR LIME ZEST TO FRUIT
Doing this or squeezing the juice onto fruit will increase the vitamin C content.
It will also bring out the flavour of the fruit, Fiona explained.

EAT SHAVED BRAZIL NUTS
According to Fiona, by shaving Brazil nuts (or macadamias) and adding them to salads, the selenium content will increase.
‘Selenium is a powerful antioxidant necessary for cell protection, thyroid function, liver health and a healthy cardiovascular system,’ Fiona said.

ADD DULSE FLAKES TO FOOD
Fiona recommends adding this healthy food to to ground sea salt to ‘boost iodine and mineral content’.
‘Natural salt contains less iodine than the highly processed iodised salt so make your own healthier version by adding tasty seaweed dulse flakes,’ she said.
‘As you can see making small simple changes can significantly increase the nutrients in your diet,’ Fiona concluded.
