WHAT TO DO

If you want to slim your hips, invest in a hula hoop, says personal trainer Nadya Fairweather (u-shape.com). These are a great warm-up tool and engage your core and glutes. Go for a slightly weighted ‘fitness’ hoop.

Circle the hoop above your bottom and hip bones. Keep the tummy drawn in. Relax the upper body, keeping the shoulders down and knees soft, with feet apart. The faster you move your hips the easier it is to hold the hoop up. Try to do this for 15 minutes.

Nutritionist Shona Wilkinson advises eating ginger to east joint pain

We  need to protect our hips as they tend to be one of the first places to notice joint aches and pains, says nutritionist Shona Wilkinson (shona wilkinson.com). Keep your hips swinging by eating plenty of ginger: it works as an anti-inflammatory to ease joint pain and can easily be added into your meals.

Basil contains eugenol — the source behind its gorgeous smell which suppresses the mediators that cause inflammation in the body.

For a food rich in omega-3, go for sardines. They contain the fatty acids EPA and DHA that help to ease joint pain and stiffness.
