A women was left disappointed after she spent $300 on a cut-out dress online- only to receive the item and realise it was just a sleeve.

The fashion lover Casey Jackson, from the US, shared a snap on her @SeekTheFinds Twitter account showing a picture of what she ordered from designer site Rui versus what was delivered.

The edgy brand specializes in daring barely-there pieces, and singers Solange and Dua lIpa are fans.

Casey thought she was getting a bargain when she ordered the $300 garment, clearly marked as a ‘dress’ online, because similar styles usually cost double the price.

But she discovered it was indeed to good to be true when she realised she had ordered an arm adornment.

The tweet racked up a lot of attention, gaining 194,000 likes and nearly 4,000 retweets.

She shared the fail with the caption: ‘So I thought I was ordering a dress… Turns out I spent $300 on a sleeve. Wtf.’

The knitted dress was described as having ‘cut-out detailing’, ‘bead embellishment’ and an ‘asymmetric neckline’.

What the fashion blogger received looked similar to the gown, however it was a lot smaller.

In another Tweet she added: ‘The price was too good to be true. But am I hallucinating at the word DRESS in the title?’

People couldn’t believe she’d ended up with just one sleeve for the price she paid.

Oner person replied:’ Too good? Girl 300 dollars for that ain’t a bad price if anything it’s overly priced.’

While another pointed out that it could have been a simple mistake as the retailer does sell a sleeve as well.

They said: ‘If you genuinely order the dress (they DO sell a dress) then they’ve sent you the wrong item.’

The sleeve was described as ‘beaded knitted single sleeve’ on the website.

Another said: ‘Yes. I think she must send them an email. That she got the wrong item. Mistakes happen.’

While another person quipped:’ Nice! Maybe they will let you keep the sleeve AND send the dress you bought.’
