RNC chair: ‘Disrespectful’ to compare Weinstein to Trump

Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said there was just no comparing President Trump to Hollwood producer Harvey Weinstein, who was ousted from atop his company Sunday over sexual harassment allegations.

‘To even make that comparison is disrespectful to the president,’ a combative Romney McDaniel told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Monday afternoon, after the broadcaster brought Trump’s infamous ‘grab ’em by the p****’ tape up.

Blitzer had called attention to the tape as he asked if there was a ‘double standard,’ with Republicans calling on Democrats, who are closely associated with Weinstein, to give political contributions back.

‘A lot of critics have pointed out that the president of the United States, his remarks that came out almost a year ago, the [Access Hollywood] tape, showed a disrespect for women as well,’ Blitzer said.

He told Romney McDaniel he wouldn’t replay it.

‘It’s not even comparable,’ argued Romney McDaniel. ‘Harvey Weinstein brought women into his hotel room … [Trump] didn’t have eight settlements, he didn’t have women coming forward … Harvey Weinstein admits that he did that.’

Blitzer remarked that ‘private citizen Donald Trump’ had a number of accusers come forward once the Access Hollywood tape aired.

‘I’ll play the clip for you because it’s an awful clip and people are referring to it and saying there’s a double standard Republicans have on the one hand versus Democrats,’ Blitzer said.

He made Romney McDaniel listen to the much-aired hot mic moment between Trump and Billy Bush, which almost derailed the Republican nominee’s presidential bid last fall.

‘Here’s the difference Wolf, the president apologized for that and many Republicans came out and said those comments were inappropriate,’ Romney McDaniel said.

While much of the Republican Party walked away from Trump in the days after the release of the Access Hollywood tape, the GOP nominee first apologized and then he doubled down.

He dubbed his comments simply ‘locker room talk’ while at the same time parading out a number of Bill Clinton’s sex accusers around the second presidential debate, suggesting that bad behavior with women was a Clinton problem as well, casting Hillary Clinton as complicit.

A year later, the RNC chairwoman was trying mightily to tie Democrats with their donor.

‘The difference is Harvey Weinstein is a major bundler for the DNC,’ Romney McDaniel said on CNN. ‘They have embraced him.’

‘He has admitted to these instances where he put women in completely inappropriate situations, that he was a sexual predator,’ she added.

Romney McDaniel then pointed to one prominent Democrat, who took donations from Weinstein, who hasn’t said anything about the allegations yet: Hillary Clinton.

‘Where’s Hillary Clinton? Where does she stand on this issue?’ Romney McDaniel asked. ‘She’s been silent. Her silence is deafening.’

A spokesman for Clinton has yet to return DailyMail.com’s request for comment from the former Democratic nominee.

Romney McDaniel applauded the group of Democrats who had already announced they were giving away their Weinstein dollars.

Sens. Patrick Leahy, R-Vt., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass, have all said they’re giving an equivalent amount of money to charity.  A day later, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., also joined in.

The RNC chairwoman praised Schumer and Warren’s efforts by name.

‘All of us should be speaking out against a sexual predator like Harvey Weinstein using his power to put women in terrible situations,’ Romney McDaniel said.
