A woman suffering life-threatening injuries was also found at the premises.

She was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition and placed under police guard.

Victoria Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection to the incident.

A resident laid flowers outside the home where the baby was found unresponsive.

‘I just live in the area, we heard what happened and we felt that we needed to lay flowers,’ they told Herald Sun.

Local Mekail Arafat, 35, said he was woken up by police cars and ambulances.

Mr Arafat said he was ‘not sure what happened (but) we saw this morning the tragic news . . . it’s very sad . . . (it’s) usually a quiet neighbourhood . . . not much happening.’

Detectives set up a crime scene on Saturday and were spotted searching a blue Lexus and a red Toyota Corolla hatchback parked outside the property.
