An Australian cleaning expert who’s on a mission against mould has revealed how to keep the unwanted bacteria growth away from your home.
Anita Birges, who heads Mise en Place Professional Organising in Sydney, recommended a ‘prevention solution’ made from clove oil, tea tree oil and white vinegar to deter mould.
In an Instagram video, Anita said to use the homemade concoction after cleaning and disinfecting the contaminated area.

After returning back home from a weekend getaway, Anita found mould had attacked her roller blinds as well as the ‘usual suspect’ areas – such as the front door and windowsills.
‘I knew that being away and having the house closed up for the weekend, with no air flow, was going to be the ideal situation for the mould to take hold. I was right!!’ she wrote online.

Anita sprayed the area, left it on for 10 minutes then wiped it clean using a microfibre cloth.
Spraying the prevention solution onto surfaces often will help stop the mould from returning.
The homemade spray is also supported by wellness business Vitalia, as the brand also shared how to make a solution that’s similar to Anita’s.

Isopropyl is a type of alcohol that can be purchased from Bunnings Warehouse, while essential oils and vinegar are the perfect anti-bacterial ingredients to kill bacteria – and both can be bought from the chemist.
After less than 24 hours, the helpful clip went viral and has been viewed more than 88,000 times.
This year Sydney has been inundated with heavy rain, causing mould repellent products to sell out at Bunnings.
It’s important to remove any mould from your home as mould spores can lead to health implications.
Earlier this year Anita shared another simple hack for keeping mould away from drawers and cupboards.
She recommended using chalk and clove oil to prevent mould in a video posted to her popular Instagram and TikTok pages.
She simply adds a few drops of clove oil onto a large chalk stick and puts it in her drawer to absorb moisture and kill mould spores.

‘Do you have mould in your drawers or in your bedroom? Ok, have I got the bets mould prevention hack for you,’ she says in the clip.
Anita suggests putting two to three drops of clove oil onto a jumbo piece of chalk.
‘Place or hang them in cupboards and drawers and allow the scent to waft around killing mould spores,’ the cleaning expert said.

In the comments, Anita said the chalk absorbs moisture and the clove oil prevents mould from coming back.
The clips drew in thousands of views with many thankful for the advice after the wet and humid weather plaguing parts of Queensland and New South Wales saw a rise in household mould.
‘It’s always the simple stuff that works best!’ one fan said.
‘Wow that is awesome. Going to go and buy some chalk tomorrow,’ a second wrote.
