It started out as a kind post congratulating her ex-Vogue colleagues on their first issue since her departure.
But former editor Alexandra Shulman has unintentionally sparked a war of words on Instagram after igniting a debate over the latest magazine cover.
Shulman, 59, took to Instagram this week to praise Vogue chiefs Emily Sheffield and Sarah Harris, along with the talented hair and makeup team, for their work on the ‘terrific’ cover shoot – but not everyone agreed.
Fashion features director Harris, who stepped in ahead of incoming editor Edward Enniful’s arrival, snapped up The Crown star Claire Foy for the November issue, and says it was an ‘honour’ to be a part of.

But some fashionistas were unimpressed with the results, labelling the cover, shot by renowned photographer Craig McDean, ‘amateurish’ and ‘boring’.
Beauty mogul Bobbi Brown then entered the fray, writing: ‘You’re allowed your personal opinions but if you have nothing nice to say don’t post them on a personal account. It’s rude.’
As the war of words blazed on, Shulman sought to distance herself from the debate, writing: ‘I think some confusion here.
‘I was congratulating the team who put together the cover. It has nothing to do with me. Everyone entitled to opinions.’
There is no indication that Shulman was trying to take credit for the November issue cover shoot.
Bobbi Brown jumped to Shulman’s defence, blasting: ‘You’re allowed your personal opinions but if you have nothing nice to say don’t post them on a personal account. It’s rude’

Shulman, who was at the helm of fashion bible Vogue for 25 years, announced earlier this year she would be stepping down to be replaced by Enniful amid a huge shake-up at the Condé Nast offices in London.
In August she signed off her final issue, writing on Instagram: ‘So excited to receive my final issue of Vogue as Editor-in-chief.
‘Filled with fashion and memories and the women who made a difference in the past quarter of a century.’
