If you had a hectic schedule of royal duties, you might be tempted to spend your downtime with your feet up, but for Norway’s sporty Crown Prince and his family it’s an excuse to get the surfboards out.
The royal court has released a new set of images of Crown Prince Haakon and his family catching some waves to celebrate Norway hosting this year’s European Championship of Surfing.
The images were taken from the family’s private holiday in Hoddevik outside of Stadt during the summer, while some came from the Prince’s private surfing holiday last year, which have been released for the first time.
Crown Prince Haakon and his wife Mette-Marit, both 44 posed with their surfboards alongside their two children Prince Sverre Magnus, 11, and Princess Ingrid Alexandra, 13, on the beach before hitting the surf.

The young prince Sverre seems to be following in his father’s footsteps as a skilled surfer, showcasing his skills as he expertly rode a wave.
Prince Haakon is a keen surfer in his dree time and is part of the committee planning the 2017 and 2018 European Championships in surfing.
The Norwegian Sailing Federation recently brought surfing into its remit, and president Tor Møinichen said: ‘Getting Crown Prince with the integration process is extremely useful and also very inspiring.
‘He follows the history of his family’s strong interest in sports at the sea.’

His grandfather King Olav won a gold medal in sailing at the 1928 summer Olympics in Amsterdam, while his father Harald, the current King of Norway, represented his country in yachting at three Olympic games.
The Crown Prince family are famously sporty and host a soocer tournament at Norway’s Skaugum Palace every year, organised with the Norwegian Football Federation
