Ferguson’s ex daughter-in-law charged with drug driving

Nadine Ferguson, 38, is said to have tested positive for cocaine when she was pulled over by police in December

Sir Alex Ferguson’s former daughter-in-law has been charged with suspicion of drug-driving eight years after a car crash left her son in a coma.

Nadine Ferguson, 38, is said to have tested positive for cocaine when she was pulled over by police in December.

Ms Ferguson, ex-wife of Sir Alex’s son Darren, faces six months in prison and a £5,000 fine when she is hauled in front Manchester magistrates next month.

She has a 15-year-old daughter Grace, with Darren, 45, who raised her son from another relationship, Charlie, now 18, as his own, reports the Sun.

In 2009, Ms Ferguson and her son were involved in a horror crash during a school run, in Oldham.

Charlie suffered life-threatening internal injuries. He broke his back and was in a coma for three days, while his scalp was severed nearly all the way round.

Ms Ferguson’s femur was broken in 35 places and doctors considered amputation. She also broke eight ribs. But both mother and son made a recovery from their horrific injuries.

A year earlier, Darren Ferguson was accused of kicking his wife in the stomach on the front drive of his father’s £2million home in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

At first the former Peterborough United manager denied the attack, but later plead guilty to common assault and was fined £1,500.

The couple were said to have clashed after having a ‘disagreement over childcare’.

Ms Ferguson also found herself under the spotlight in 2012 over her Lovern charity.

She set up the foundation to help Liverpool’s Alder Hey Hospital, after it helped save her son’s life.

However, staff at Alder Hey said the £15,000 raised by Lovern never arrived.

Ms Ferguson said the hospital was donated toys but was never promised any cash.
