Oklahoma special needs student beaten up in restroom

A special needs student from Edmond Memorial High School in Oklahoma was beaten up by a fellow student last week.

The harrowing incident, which took place on October 4, was caught on video and later posted to social media.

The anonymous teen, who has a neurological disorder, was seen being beaten repeatedly without fighting back, KTLA reports, and now his parents are pressing charges.

In the video the special needs student turns his back but his classmate continues to aggressively punch him in the chest and the back whilst his friends merely stand around and observe.

The student was tormenting the victim asking him to punch him back saying: ‘swing on me’, but the teen ignored and didn’t retaliate.

The victim said to police he was merely: ‘talking to my friends and one of my friends said, “Do you want to fight?” I said “No,” but his friends took me into the restroom.’

The teen, who has a neurological disorder, has a device to relieve pressure caused by brain fluid.

Jennifer Wagnon from the Edmond Police Department said: ‘The student that we arrested said it started in the cafeteria.’

‘That the other student had asked him to fight, had wanted to fight. The video does not show that part of it at all,’ Wagnon said.

The video was shared on social media and eventually staff caught wind of the video, which resulted in the students immediate arrest – he was charged with assault and battery.

School officials wouldn’t disclose the disciplinary action taken against the suspect.

The school released an official statement thanking the students who came forward to condemn their colleague.

‘A safe and secure learning environment is of the upmost priority for Edmond Schools. With a student population of 24,870 and almost 3,000 employees, it is important that all staff and students understand what to do in any crisis, whether it be natural or man-made.’

‘We appreciate the students who, after viewing the video, made the bold decision to come forward and report the incident to school administration and the SRO on behalf of a fellow classmate.’

‘It is students like these that can help reduce further incidents from occurring. It takes all 28,000 students and staff at EPS to help make the safest environment possible for all students to learn.’
