A 32-year-old woman who had broken up with her boyfriend of seven years took her own life after struggling to cope with the break-up.
Rebecca Fox, from Southborough, Tunbridge Wells, who was described as ‘creative’ and ‘intelligent’ in court, killed herself in June this year after separating from Tim Fowler.
She had felt as if her ex-boyfriend ‘had been stringing her along and playing with her emotions’ prior to her death.
The court heard how Ms Fox became aware that Mr Fowler had been on a date with another woman and was messaging an ex-girlfriend.
Detective Sergeant Suzanne Basford told the court: ‘Kent Police was called at 6.22pm on Saturday June 10 by Miss Uma Hooton, as recorded on police record.
‘The report details a concern for welfare from her sister that Becky Fox had split from Tim Fowler.
Rebecca Fox, from Tunbridge Wells, had struggled to cope following her break-up with her boyfriend Tim Fowler
‘She said that Tim had been stringing her along and playing with her emotions.
‘Tim was concerned over the text messages that she had been sending him.
‘Tim forwarded these messages to Rebecca so she could get in contact with her and check she was okay.’
After friends and family tried to get hold of Ms Fox by calls and text, police were called to her house at 9pm on June 10 where they forced entry.
She was found unresponsive under the covers in her bedroom. Despite paramedics best efforts, she sadly passed away.
Sergeant Basford said: ‘Rebecca was in a relationship with Tim for seven years.
‘They lived in a rented property in Tunbridge Wells, with their three cats and Rebecca worked in a nearby café and salon.
‘Rebecca had recently finished a floristry course. She enjoyed photography and poetry and was very creative.
‘She had been travelling to India and Australia, she was intelligent and would do anything for anyone.’
Ms Fox had been struggling with depression and body dysmorphia prior to her death and had been talking to her sister about wanting to get help from a doctor.
Sgt Basford added: ‘Rebecca found out that he had been e-mailing an ex-girlfriend and had been on a date with another woman.
‘Rebecca had not left any suicide notes, but sent her sister a number of text messages detailing how low she was feeling and how she wanted to get help from the doctor.’
Senior Coroner, Rodger Hatch, said: ‘The officer confirmed there was no note or indication that she wished to take her own life, but looking at the circumstances, one is drawn is to the conclusion that it was her intention to end her life.’
An inquest at the Archbishop’s Palace ruled the cause of death was asphyxiation and the coroner concluded suicide.
