Rodarte accused Reem Acra of copying

There may be a new feud brewing in the fashion world.

Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the sister design duo by the celebrity-beloved label Rodarte, have taken to Instagram this week to accuse fellow designer Reem Acra of ripping off their style.

And the pictures are pretty damning: A side-by-side comparison of a models from Reem Acra’s latest bridal show and the ready-to-wear show Rodarte held this summer do look suspiciously similar.

Rodarte showed its Spring 2018 ready-to-wear collection in July, marking the sisters’ Paris debut.

The collection included florals, furs, and pants, and models walked a dirt runway surrounded by flowers.

They wore flowers, too: Many of the catwalk queens were accessorized with springs and garlands of baby’s breath Some wore the tiny white blooms as crowns, some had them wrapped around their arms like cuffs, a few carried bouquets, and some were draped in lengths around their arms that looked like boas.

A Los Angeles floral designer named Joseph Free was brought in to style the real flowers on the big day.

Then, this weekend, Reem Acra debuted her Fall 2018 bridal collection. And once again, the models were accessorized with baby’s breath, with many of the worn arrangements looking incredibly similar to the ones seen three months earlier on the Rodarte runway.

The Instagram account Diet Prada — which documents brands and designers that ‘knock off’ others — was the first to notice, posting a side-by-side comparison.

‘@reem_acra servin’ up some serious DIY @rodarte garlands for bridal week. At a certain point, you just give up on creativity and rake in the dough, right?’ they wrote.

Kate and Laura spotted it and regrammed it on their shared personal account days later, voicing anger at the similarities.

‘Wtf Reem Acra,’ they wrote. ‘It’s only been 3 months!’

Of course, it’s entirely possible that this is just a coincidence or an honest mistake — Reem Acra may very well have had the same idea, or may have seen Rodarte’s show and later forgot that’s where the idea came from.

But Rodarte fans are not buying it.

‘I am so embarrassed for them,’ wrote one. Another added: ‘Dude. Not even TRYING to be subtle about it.’
