A mum has made the ‘softest and smoothest’ play dough for her children in under an hour by using her slow cooker.
Sharing the method to the Slow Cooker Recipe & Tips Facebook page, the woman said she used flour, salt, cream of tartar, water, oil and blue food colouring.
The clever mum hadn’t made play dough in the slow cooker before but was pleased with the end result.
Not only does play dough promote playtime but it helps develop fine motor skills, encourages creativity, enhances hand-eye coordination and improves social skills.

The mum made the play dough by combining the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a bowl then in a separate bowl she combined the water, oil and food colouring.
The dry ingredients were poured into the slow cooker first followed by the wet ingredients and mixed together thoroughly.
The mixture was then cooking on a high heat between 45 to 60 minutes, stirring often for the first half an hour then twice for the remaining cooking time.
The woman said the dough will be ready when it forms and no longer sticks to the sides of the slow cooker.
‘You can test this by taking a small amount out, form into ball and cool in freezer for a few minutes,’ she wrote.
‘When it’s ready this won’t stick to your fingers when you handle it. This small test ball can then be returned to the mix.’
After sharing the recipe online other parents part of the Facebook cooking community were shocked they haven’t thought of the method before.
‘Wow I have never done play dough in a slow cooker. You may have just changed my life!’ one mum wrote.
‘Awesome, this is much better than the old method,’ another said.
