Boy suffered severe burns from Peppa Pig sunscreen

A three-year-old boy was left screaming in agony just minutes after putting on Peppa Pig sunscreen.

Rivers Jasper suffered burns to his back, face, shoulders and ears during a family trip to Bali last week.

His parents Shannae and Paul Jasper said the harrowing experience has left their son terrified of having any kind of lotion or spray put on.

‘He’s absolutely petrified now of when we try and put any type of spray, lotion, even in the bath he won’t pour the water over his back,’ Ms Jasper told Seven News Perth.

‘He won’t let us touch him.’

Ms Jasper said they put the Cancer Council-approved sunscreen on three-year-old Rivers in their hotel room but he was in unbearable pain within minutes.

‘His skin was really, really tender and red. He was vomiting all the next day,’ she said.

The sunscreen was about a year old but still within its expiry date, the Jaspers said.

Mr Jasper said he did not want to stop people supporting the Cancer Council, but felt compelled to speak out about the ordeal.

Since posting video and photos of the incident on social media the couple have heard from over one hundred people who say the same thing happened to them.

The Cancer Council has sold more than 2.4 million units of the Peppa Pig kid’s sunscreen, and are in contact with the Jasper family.

Cancer Council chief executive Professor Sanchia Aranda said all of their sunscreens require approval from the TGA and are tested to make sure they meet Australian standards, but a small proportion of people suffer sensitivities or allergies.

The incident comes after a baby girl is Sydney was burned while using the same sunscreen earlier this year.

In late 2016, a Mrs Universe beauty queen tested the Peppa Pig sunscreen on herself and ended up with first and second degree burns.
