Kansas boy asks girl to Homecoming with Fenty highlighter

Forget roses and chocolates, the way to this girl’s heart (and millions of others) is the perfect cheekbone highlight—and one suitor had the most iconic one in mind to capture one girl’s heart in an adorable homecoming proposal.

Wichita, Kansas, student Alec Kealey, 18, approached his friend Shania Tran, 17, after school as she was making her way to the parking lot, when he sneakily surprised her with a poster that read: ‘Light up my night at Hoco?’

Her friends recording the proposal on the sidelines captured her shocked shriek as she saw him come out from behind the cars with the poster in hand. Tran then gleefully accepted Alec’s proposal, before she realized a box of Rihanna’s Killawat yellow highlighter was sneakily taped at the top of the black and gold poster.

A way with words! The glittering poster asked Shania to ‘Light up my night at Hoco?’

The video posted to Twitter shows Shania, a student at Northeast Magnet High School, stopping dead in her tracks on the way to her car, keys in hand when she sees Alec emerge holding his sign.

The teen covers her mouth in shock, then rushes to say yes and accept the shiny bag of goodies he offers. She hug the beaming suitor, proud of his job well done.

Alec reveals that the idea came to him after scheming with some of Shania’s friends, knowing that the teen was a fan of Rihanna’s famous Fenty line, but refrained from buying it for herself.

Thankfully, she didn’t have to.    

‘One day I asked one of Shania’s friends what I could do to give her an amazing homecoming proposal. And she found out that Shania wanted this make-up. So I went online and found the make up and purchased it,’ he shared to Daily Mail Online on his genius idea.

Surprise! Shania had no idea the tricks Alec had up his sleeve and was shocked by his poster

Swept off her feet! She covered her mouth in shock and immediately said yes to his proposal

Hug it out! The two seniors, who have been friends since freshmen year, shared a hug after the proposal for the dance set for this Saturday

‘It was really nice cause her friend even made the sign for me. We decided since it was a highlighter that the sign should say something about lighting up the night,’ he added.

And she couldn’t have loved his proposal more. 

‘I had no idea he had this planned. He and my friends were secretly planning it for a month. I came out into the parking lot to my car and Alec comes from behind it with the surprise proposal. My friends were gathered all around us when he popped the question and I was so in shock but I was also very excited!’ she revealed to Daily Mail Online. 

‘The homecoming proposal was so sweet and heartwarming. It was such a kind gesture and I am very thankful and grateful for this and Alec!’ she added. 

Shania, a make-up lover, shared that she even showed him the Fenty products once, but had no idea he would remember and make a proposal out of it.

‘I do love wearing highlighter! I believe he decided to go for the highlighter since he knows I like to be “popping” with my highlight,’ she shared on her go-to make-up look. 

Cheese! Shania revealed that the two are close and dear friends and was ‘speechless by how sweet [the proposal] was. The dance will coincidentally take place on her 18th birthday

Stud! Alec, a baseball player, noticed his friend was a fan of highlighter and went out to buy her the current most coveted version by Rihanna

Bright like a diamond! Rihanna’s highlighter has become a major make-up sensation with girls across the nation, and Shania was no exception

‘My reaction was simply just happiness. I was so surprised and grateful and had no hesitation. I was kind of speechless by how sweet it was and of course said yes,’ she explained.

In the bag she found the coveted Fenty Beauty highlight along with assorted samples from Sephora.

‘Alec and I have known each other since our freshman year and we are seniors and he is a very special person to me so we’ll see where this takes us,’  Shania shared on the future for the duo.

No doubt Shania will be dousing her cheeks and collarbones with the stunning highlight for the homecoming dance this Saturday, the same day of the 18th birthday.

As for the hopes of the night, Alec summarized their relationship saying the two ‘aren’t dating yet’ with a cheeky wink.
