As many women will attest, having your period while you’re on holiday, at the pool or on the beach is not a pleasant experience.
This is why one label have come up with a way to ensure you feel comfortable, happy and confident – even while menstruating.
Australian underwear brand, Modibodi, has identified this issue – and come up with a collection of period-proof swimwear to solve this problem and prevent embarrassing ‘lady leaks’.

Designed to prevent embarrassing ‘lady leaks’, the knickers (pictured) work by absorbing menstrual flow, with different styles holding either one or two tampons worth of fluid
While the brand are already known for their period-proof underwear, this summer they are taking things one step further by creating leak-free swim garments.

The clever fabric used absorbs fluid and locks it away so you don’t feel damp and the moisture-wicking layer draws sweat and discharge away from the source and fights bacteria.

‘We are very excited to be launching a revolutionary swimwear range,’ Kristy Chong, Modibodi Founder, said in a brand statement.
‘Having launched a line of fashionable, hi-tech underwear successfully into the market, our customers started to ask us for a solution for swimming as one in two young girls will not swim on her period for fear of a leak.
‘So we did some category research and it became very clear the swimwear industry lacked innovation and there were no other swimsuit brands on the market that could provide protection fused with fashion, so we decided to change that.’

The brand fundraised for the swimwear on Kickstarter – where they raised an impressive AUD $26,000 – and the Modibodi swim range is now available to pre-order for 30 days.
The Modibodi swim range comes in two styles; the Got Your Backstroke leak-proof Active bikini & Set Me Freestyle leak-proof one-piece swimsuit.
Both are available in girls’ and ladies’ sizes.
Modibodi founder, Kristy Chong, made headlines around the world in 2015 – when she was constantly irritated with her under-performing underpants, and set about creating a product that would support women who suffer bladder weakness and breast milk leaks, as well as during their period.
‘While I was overseas training for a marathon, my underwear wasn’t protecting me against bladder weakness which I had following my second child, and I was missing underwear that looked good, was comfortable, and could protect me by replacing the panty liner,’ Kristy told Daily Mail Australia at the time.
‘I spoke to family and friends and found I wasn’t alone in my frustrations with the options available.’
These days, the label also sell ‘odour and sweat proof sports bras’, ‘leak proof maternity singlets’ and underwear in a range of materials and models (pictured)
Following Kristy’s ‘a ha’ moment, she set her mind on developing a specially designed underwear option for women that liberates them from panty liners and leaks.
She spent the next two years consulting with over 100 textile engineers in Australia and the US, and 18 months performing extensive scientific tests to develop the most effective fabric technology.
In 2013, after teaming up with leading Australian lingerie designers and manufacturers, the final product was released – Modibodi underwear.
These days, the label also sell ‘odour and sweat proof sports bras’, ‘leak proof maternity singlets’ and underwear in a range of materials and models.
‘I wanted to be able to put the power back into the hands of women every day of the month,’ founder, Kristy, explained on a Kickstarter video associated with Modibodi Swim.
