Schoolgirl is found dead in woodland in Runcorn

A teenage girl was found dead in a children’s play area in a wooded area yesterday morning. 

Police cordoned off a wooded area of parkland in Sandymoor, near Runcorn, on Sunday.

Officers confirmed a 14-year-old girl had been found dead at the scene but said they were not treating the death as suspicious. 

She was found by locals out walking their dogs. 

Police would not comment on whether she took her own life and said it was a matter for the coroner.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: ‘At 9.09am on Sunday 15 October police were called following the discovery of a body near Walsingham Drive, Runcorn.

‘Officers attended the scene where they found the body of a 14-year-old girl. Next of kin has been informed and a post mortem will take place in due course.

‘The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.’
