Deontay Wilder hits out at Anthony Joshua after bizarre rant following Usyk defeat

Deontay Wilder hits out at Anthony Joshua for his post-fight ‘meltdown’ after losing to Oleksandr Usyk – claiming his rival has been ‘given everything’ and that ‘listening to all this fake stuff’ led to his downfall

  • Anthony Joshua was beaten in his heavyweight rematch against Oleksandr Usyk
  • After the fight, Joshua vented his frustrations to the crowd in attendance
  • Joshua’s passionate speech left most fans bemused by his behaviour
  • Deontay Wilder feels Joshua has been handed everything in his career
  • He has claimed that the Brit has been listening to ‘fake stuff’ and has lost his way

Deontay Wilder believes Anthony Joshua’s post-fight rant after his defeat against Oleksandr Usyk shows that the Brit has been given everything in his career and no longer knows who to trust in his team.

Joshua put up a brave effort in his rematch against Usyk on Saturday in Jeddah, but ultimately came up short as the Ukrainian retained his titles via a split decision verdict.

However, it was his antics afterwards that overshadowed the actual fight as Joshua threw two championship belts out the ring, took the microphone and spoke passionately to the crowd, while also clashing with members of Usyk’s team. Wilder has now reacted to Joshua’s behaviour following his latest loss.

‘The meltdown comes when you create such a fighter,’ Wilder told EsNews.

‘You give them everything, try to avoid tough fights. Then when it boils down to the wire you don’t know who to trust, you’ve been listening to all this fake stuff.’

Wilder’s comments come after some fans and pundits were critical of Joshua’s entourage for not stopping him from speaking so emotionally before he had composed himself.

Wilder and Joshua had looked set to face each other back in 2018 when they were both titlists in the heavyweight division.

However, after lengthy negotiations, Wilder opted to fight Tyson Fury instead, kickstarting their memorable trilogy.

Wilder has since been beaten twice by Fury, while Joshua has lost three of his last five bouts, leaving both boxers out of the title picture for the moment.

With Fury and Usyk in negotiations over a mouthwatering unification bout, Wilder is adamant that it would be one-way traffic in favour of the former – claiming Usyk

‘I think Fury will be too big for him. He just likes to use his size and a lot of other things,’ he detailed.

‘I think Usyk’s too small. I think Usyk has a stamina problem as well.

‘If Joshua had enough stamina it would probably be a different result. But that’s my opinion about it.’

It seems that Wilder is still frustrated that he is yet to meet Joshua in the ring, although now that the pair are no longer champions and have their pick of opponents, they could set up a mega-fight in the future.

Wilder is due to make his return to the squared circle in October when he takes on Robert Helenius as the American aims to get back to winning ways after his knockout loss against Fury last year.

Joshua has also spoken about making his comeback in the near future, with the 32-year-old claiming that he wants to fight again this year.
