Birmingham City announcement video of loan signing Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri has left some fans confused.
The video posted on Twitter is inspired by a scene from the 1991 film Silence of the Lambs, in which fictitious villain Hannibal Lecter meets FBI agent Clarice Starling in a high-security prison.
But due to the film being over three decades old, many fans are not familiar with the reference the club were trying to make by super-imposing the midfielder over the villain.
Hannibal was super-imposed into the film Silence of the Lambs in his announcement video
Fans were then left questioning why the midfielder appeared to be a prison cell, with one Twitter user, @LaunchburyJake, saying: ‘Why is he in jail?’
Another, @__Sheyifunmi, said: ‘What kind of announcement is this? Was he in prison before?’
Some football fans were not keen on the announcement video of Hannibal to Birmingham City
Whereas, fans who understood the reference were happy to the praise the club for the creative video.
Twitter user @Oliveresuana said: ‘@BCFC Whoever made this deserves a massive raise.’
Another fan joined in on the fun and posted a picture waiting outside the prison cell for the player’s autograph.
And another compared it to similar videos put out by Burnley, @bcfcxkian said: ‘@BCFC We went full burnley on that one and I’m all up for it.’
Some fans however spoke about how the move will pan out for the Manchester United academy star suggesting that he is ready to play in the Premier League now, rather than the Championship.
Twitter account and Manchester United supporter, @readthesinze said: ‘Hannibal is good enough for the prem now imo. Just needs more games. I hate us loaning out our top talent to championship teams. Different mentality there.’
Hannibal could play his first game for Birmingham City on Tuesday against Norwich City
Another Twitter user, @zdpj_, tweeted: ‘It’s criminal that he’s in the championship.’
Whereas one Birmingham fan who rates the midfielder highly is already wanting the club to keep him permanently.
@JamieSimne tweeted: ‘Keep him locked up. Don’t let him leave.’
