Boston Celtics star Gordon Hayward suffers leg break

NBA star Gordon Hayward suffered one of the most gruesome injuries during the opening night of his career with the Boston Celtics.

The 27-year-old was midway through the first quarter of the team’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers when he suffered a dramatic and horrific leg injury. 

Hayward went up for a pass from Celtics newcomer Kyrie Irving during a potential alley-oop when he landed awkwardly on his left leg appearing to break it.

The game stopped as medics rushed to the court to attend to Hayward, who grimaced in pain.

Players on both the Celtics and Cavs were disturbed by the nature of his horrific injury. 

Hayward, an Indiana native, was quickly carted off the floor with his leg in an air cast while the crowd gave him a standing ovation.
