A young mother was allegedly carjacked while breastfeeding her baby in a shopping centre carpark, sparking a dramatic police chase.

A 35-year-old man is now in custody and facing 21 charges after an alleged carjacking crime spree across Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast in September.

Footage shows a man in hi-vis walking along the sidewalk before spotting the woman and her child and opening the door.

The shocked mother can be seen running away through the carpark holding the child as the man drives off in the silver hatchback.

The 35-year-old man allegedly spotted the woman in the car outside a shopping centre and ordered her out before driving off in her hatchback (pictured)

Dashcam footage from a police motorcycle then shows the same car driving off-road through a residential neighbourhood before its blocked by a fence.

The officer orders the driver onto the ground and places him in handcuffs.

Police allege the man began his crime spree on September 1 when he broke into houses and stole cars in the north Brisbane suburbs of Morningside, Gordon Park and Kedron.

On September 2 the man allegedly broke into a home at Minyama on the Sunshine Coast about 6.20am and stole a Toyota LandCruiser 4WD that was later seen allegedly speeding on the wrong side of the road.

After three hours the car was abandoned in the nearby suburb of Woombye where the man allegedly broke into another house and demanded car keys to a different LandCruiser from the female homeowner.

That vehicle was also abandoned later in the suburb of Buddina where the man allegedly broke into a yet another home and demanded keys to a third LandCruiser.

That car was driven to the Big Top Shopping Centre in Maroochydore where the man allegedly carjacked the young mother in the silver hatchback.

Police patrols then tracked the man through Sunshine Coast suburbs alleging he was speeding and ignoring red lights.

The hatchback eventually blocked itself in at a Sippy Downs neighbourhood and a man was arrested by a motorcycle officer.

Police have levelled 21 charges against the man including six counts of burglary, six of unlawful use of a car, two of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and armed robbery.

He fronted Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday where he was remanded in custody to appear again on November 4.
