Former Real Madrid and Everton star James Rodriguez is reportedly closing in on a loan deal with join Greek side Olympiacos.
The 31-year-old is currently playing for Qatari side Al-Rayyan, but appears keen on a return to Europe following a year away in the Middle East.
Rodriguez has been linked with moves to Valencia and Galatasaray in recent weeks, with reports stating he would take a ‘pay cut’ to join the LaLiga side.
James Rodriguez could be set to leave Al-Rayyan on loan to Greek side Olympiacos
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has stated that a deal with Olympiacos is set to be completed and that the Colombian star will fly to Greece today for a medical.
It’s added that a verbal agreement is already in place over a loan deal.
Should he join Olympiacos, it would be the ninth club of his career.
Rodriguez has been in Qatar for the last 12 months, contributing five goals and seven assists in 15 appearances, following an underwhelming season at Everton.
The Colombian midfielder won two Champions League trophies during his time at Real Madrid
He also had an underwhelming year at Everton during the 2020-21 season before joining Al-Rayyan
Prior to his spell at Goodison Park, the midfielder won league titles with Porto, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich as well as two Champions League crowns with Los Blancos.
The other European club who the Colombian has featured for is Monaco, but he spent just a year in the principality before his performances at the 2014 World Cup – where he won the Golden Boot and Goal of the Tournament – earned him a £63million move to the Bernabeu.
Olympiacos are currently third in the Greek Super League, with two wins and two draws to their name so far this season.
A move to Olympiacos would see him reunite with former Madrid team-mate Marcelo
He wouldn’t be the only big name player to join the club, after they previously signed a former Real Madrid team-mate of Rodriguez.
Marcelo, who lifted the Champions League trophy just less than four months ago after Madrid’s 1-0 win over Liverpool, joined the Greek side on a free transfer after leaving the Spanish giants after 15 seasons with the club.
