Texas teacher duct-taped students’ mouths

A Texas teacher placed duct tape over the mouths of 10 fifth-grade students, an elementary school has said.

The substitute teacher at Maxdale Elementary School in Killeen, Texas placed duct tape over their mouths in an incident that one student said lasted at least 15 minutes, the Killeen Daily Herald reported.

The student said, via his mother, that the unidentified teacher put duct tape on his mouth a second time, after he had initially removed it.

Three other students in the class placed duct tape over their mouths during the incident, according to the school district’s spokesperson.

All 13 students were taken to the school nurse following the incident, and finished out the remainder of the school day, the school district’s spokesperson said.

A student said that the incident lasted for at least 15 minutes. The student also said that the teacher put another piece over his mouth after he ripped the first one off. Pictured is a stock photo of duct tape

‘The substitute teacher was immediately removed from the classroom and barred from the campus as a result of this outrageous and unconscionable behavior,’ a press release from the district reads, KWTX reports.

Maxdale Elementary’s principal, Bobbie Evans, notified parents of the incident.

The school also notified Child Protective Services.

A motive was not given for the substitute teacher’s action. 

Fifth-graders in the United States are generally 10 or 11 years old.

Killeen is a city of 140,000 people near Fort Hood, a US military post.
