Driver in Ford Ranger flips multiple times in crash on Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Melbourne

Worst lane change EVER? Shocking moment a ute driver flips multiple times towards oncoming traffic after failed merge

  • A Ford Ranger struck a Mitsubishi Triton on a busy Melbourne freeway last week
  • The impact caused the Ranger to flip twice landing on opposite side of the road
  • It ended up on its side as oncoming traffic careered past on the overpass
  • Footage of the horror accident was captured by dashcam and posted on online

A Ford Ranger has flipped twice over a median strip into oncoming traffic after its driver clipped another vehicle on a busy highway.

Dramatic footage of the collision was caught on dashcam last Wednesday on the Mornington Peninsula Freeway in Aspendale Gardens, Melbourne.

The 36-year-old driver miraculously did not go to hospital after the vehicle rolled multiple times – but he copped an infringement notice for failing to give way.

The red and white ute was travelling north in the left lane before 9am when it indicated right and was changing lanes.

Debris from the vehicle flew into the air as it rolled, propelling contents from the back of the car.

The car then landed on its side on the other side of the highway as vehicles travelling in the opposite direction were speeding past.

The Triton’s driver slammed on the brakes and remained upright on the bitumen, avoiding more carnage.

No one was injured in the accident.

Paramedics attended the motorist from the car that rolled at the scene.

The horrific vision was posted on social media on Sunday with divided views on which driver caused the accident.

‘I wonder if they will ever try and push in again? Springvale road overpass in Melbourne VIC,’ one person wrote.

‘idk about Australian speed limit, but right lane driver is totally wrong,’ one commenter claimed.

‘Right hand lane is for passing. Unless the highway is less than 90kmh, then which case can sit in either lane and over take in either.’

‘The red Ute driver clearly knew the dark Ute was there, they just expected them to get out of their way, (entitlement),’ another said.

Paramedics attended the offending motorist at the scene but he didn't need any further treatment (pictured, the car rolling across the median strip)
