Fashion expert explains why a grey suit is the ultimate hardworking wardrobe hero

As the autumn weather starts to set in, many of us are looking for a wardrobe refresh. And, as these stylish royals prove, a grey suit is one of the most hardworking pieces you can own.  

Queen Letizia of Spain, Princess Charlene of Monaco, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark have all stepped out in grey suits in recent days, proving its a transitional trend that’s not going anywhere. 

The suits can come in all shapes, styles and shades, and be worn with anything from a comfy rollneck to a crisp white shirt, making it an extremely versatile ensemble.

‘The grey suit is the ultimate hardworking hero wardrobe piece, striking the perfect tone between business and sultry, whilst never being overpowering,’ stylist Miranda Holder told FEMAIL.

The Spanish royal isn’t the only one who is experiment with the monochrome palette, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark stepped out in a sharp grey suit to attend the Danish Industry Award 2022 on Tuesday night.

Mary, 50, looked ever-so-chic in a grey checked blazer and matching trousers by Alexander McQueen as she entered the Royal Arena in Copenhagen 

She paired the sophisticated power suit with a simple blue ribbed shirt, Mulberry handbag, understated jewellery and grey suede pumps.

Known for her power dressing, the stylish royal, 44, looked sharp as she paired her deep grey suit with a crisp white shirt and simple pearl drop earrings.  

Miranda champions how the grey suit can be styled up or down and can be re-worn countless times for any occasion. 

She added: ‘The art of rewearing your wardrobe on numerous occasions has been demonstrated successfully of late by our much loved British Royals such as Princess Kate and Camilla the Queen Consort, and even the late Queen Elizabeth II herself. 

‘This was a wonderful way to appear relevant to their public, by making their wardrobes a little more accessible and relatable to fashion loving onlookers. 

‘There is a comforting familiarity in seeing the same pieces used in different ways time and time again – demonstrated by the late Queen herself with her colourful monochromatic looks, and finally, it helps to cement their personal brand and make them even more iconic.’
