David Warner’s ODI captaincy hopes are GONE as Cricket Australia names the replacement for  outgoing skipper Aaron Finch

David Warner has been passed over as the new captain of Australia’s one-day team, with Cricket Australia naming Pat Cummins as the replacement for Aaron Finch.

Warner had hoped to have his leadership ban overturned after he was ruled out of ever captaining Australia again following the Sandpapergate cheating scandal in South Africa in 2018.

Cricket Australia’s announcement that it was changing its rules to allow an appeal against such suspensions was interpreted as clearing the path for Warner to be elevated to the top job, but it was not to be.

Finch recently retired from ODI cricket to focus on T20 internationals and Warner had hoped to become his replacement.

Instead, Test skipper Cummins will juggle both roles.
