Confronting moment an innocent, book-reading tram passenger cops a foul-mouthed rant from another commuter – as the internet cheers how well he ignores the taunts
- Passengers left stony-faced by a foul-mouthed passenger on a Sydney lightrail
- The man spotted another passenger reading a book with ‘Mao’ in the title
- He started to yell after seeing the Chinese revolutionary’s name on the book
- The man berated the reader, who ignored him for the entire duration of the rant
Shocking video has emerged of a tram commuter launching into a foul-mouthed tirade at a passenger reading a book about China’s Chairman Mao.
Social media footage shows a man cradling a can of raspberry cider and – after first practicing how to pronounce the infamous Communist’s name – ranting at the Sydney bookworm about political correctness.
‘I suppose you think there’s 50 genders?’ the hat-wearing man taunts the reader. ‘Mao can be identified as a dog? Woof, woof!’
The passenger remains unfazed – and doesn’t say a word in response, determined to ignore him.
Innocent commuters minding their own business were subjected to an uncensored rant about Mao Zedong from a passenger clutching a can of hard cider (pictured right)
As passengers try and ignore the loud commuter’s rant, he continues: ‘And if you say anything against it, you’re a f**king racist, homophobe. There’s 50 million genders.’
A small child in a pram interrupts the spray, making animal noises.
The ranter then appears to threaten to punch the commuter in the head – ‘I’ll punch your head in when we get off, bro’ – before a sudden change of heart.
‘God bless you, god bless you, man. You can believe what you want to believe, but I’ve lived it, my family lived it. It (communism) never works.’
The reading man then puts down his book, Mao’s Great Famine, a non-fiction tome about how the Communist revolution left China engulfed in famine and violence – for his phone.
The man put away his book halfway through the rant, revealing it to be a historical title – ‘Mao’s Great Famine’ – about the failings of the 1900s Chinese communist revolucion and the Great Chinese Famine of 1958 to 1962, not a text in support of socialist philosphies as the passenger believed it to be
The cider-clutching passenger continued to carry on about people who read books being ‘priviliged’. ‘We’ll make socialism work because we’re white,’ he continued.
Many who saw the original footage online were completely bemused – and praised the book reader for keeping his cool.
‘(This) guy is just not even responding to him, not giving him the retaliation he wants,’ wrote another.
‘You reckon (the ranter’s) flexing the f**k out of his right calf to assert dominance?’ another joked.
