It comes after fans of A Current Affair slammed the show for airing an ‘unfair interview’ with controversial neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo on Tuesday.

It comes after fans of A Current Affair slammed the show for airing an ‘unfair interview’ with controversial neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo on Tuesday
The claims, which Dr Teo furiously denied, were originally aired by Channel Nine’s 60 Minutes on the weekend.
Critics have since branded the ACA interview a ‘hack job’ and ‘witch hunt’, claiming it unfairly painted Dr Teo as an immoral, money-hungry physician whose successes are overshadowed by his failures.
‘I would always support Dr Charlie Teo. He is an amazing man and we need him. Typical Current Affair. No wonder I don’t normally watch it,’ one viewer tweeted.
‘Another hack job on Dr Teo. It’s BRAIN SURGERY!!! Things go wrong,’ tweeted another, adding: ‘Hate to disillusion you, Tracy, but all patients are lab rats and have been since surgery [was] invented. Also, patients listen with rose coloured glasses They don’t hear the bad, only the good, and complain later.’

One critic branded the episode ‘the most disgraceful piece of journalism,’ while another tweeted: ‘This horrible witch hunt is so typical in Australia. Why? He has saved the lives of numerous people I know.’
They added: ‘He helped where other doctors abandoned the patients. I just don’t understand.’
Other users called Dr Teo a ‘hero’ and accused ACA of perpetuating ‘tall poppy syndrome’.

On the other hand, some viewers have claimed Grimshaw was fair and balanced in her approach to interviewing Dr Teo.
‘Tracy Grimshaw gave a masterclass in the right balance with Dr Charlie Teo on A Current Affair tonight,’ one tweeted.
‘Thanks Tracy for a balanced interview with Dr Teo. He addressed all points as well. This interview dispelled a very negative picture projected by 60 Minutes,’ another agreed, adding: ‘May Dr Teo continue to help those desperately ill.’

Dr Teo has been unable to operate in Australia for the past 15 months without written approval from a fellow surgeon due to restrictions placed on him by the Medical Council of NSW after the body received three complaints.
He’s also under investigation from the Healthcare Complaints Commission.
Fresh details of the allegations came to light this week when he was accused of charging huge fees to the desperate families of two children, one of whom was left vegetative and both of whom died within a year.

Dr Teo strenuously denied claims he made false promises to patients during his is interview with Grimshaw.
‘No, absolutely not,’ Dr Teo said adamantly. ‘Look, I know I didn’t.’
Grimshaw also asked Dr Teo how he saw his Healthcare Complaints Commission hearing being played out.
‘How do you see the future for you?’ she continued.
An emotional Dr Teo hesitated for a few moments before responding.
‘Oh… Tracy,’ he said.

In another part of the interview, Grimshaw grilled the surgeon on the question that has divided Australians – who is the real Charlie Teo?
‘They either believe the critics who think you’re a cowboy who has a God complex or they believe you’re a hero who pushed the convention and they’re trying to figure who is the real Charlie Teo,’ she explained
‘That’s what I want to do. I want to shed some light on that so they can answer that for themselves.’
‘Can you understand there are these two clear images of you?’
Dr Teo agreed, replying: ‘Yeah, I understand that. Because you always think other people respond the way you respond. So, in other words, if you’re money hungry you’re going to think everyone else is money hungry.’
‘If you’re a bad person, you’re going to think everyone else will act badly. If you’re a good, kind, person, then you expect that of other people. So of course you’re going to project your own feelings and prejudices onto someone else,’ he added.
