During the United States’ pulsating, scoreless first half vs. England, McKennie went over to a photographer before wiping his hand on the man’s vest in an attempt to dry his hands before a throw-in.
The strange moment looked to take the elderly worker by surprise while one of his colleagues looked on in bemusement.

It occurred in the 38th minute with the scores tied at 0-0, though McKennie’s other major involvement should have seen a change in the score line.
Elon Musk’s Twitter was set alight as a result of the moment with one fan suggesting it was a completely ‘disgusting’ act.
