Brazil U17s 1-3 England U17s: Rhian Brewster scores three

Liverpool youngster Rhian Brewster turned out a second scintillating display in as many matches to fire England u17s past Brazil U17s to book a spot in the World Cup final.

Brewster backed up his formidable display in the quarter-final with his second hat-trick in as many outings to ensure Steve Cook’s side came away 3-1 winners against the Brazilians.

It was England who came blistering out of the starting blocks, plonking the young Brazilians on the back foot after just 10 minutes.

After some clever work from Callum Hudson-Odoi on the left flank, the playmaker found Brewster in the box before the Liverpool striker forced goalkeeper Gabriel Brazao into a save.

But Brazil’s young guns refused to lie down and hit back with a period of sustained pressure and dangerous attacks.

Just 11 minutes after Brewster’s opener, England’s defence was breached. Paulinho’s shot was too hot for Curtis Anderson to handle in the England goal and the ball fell to right back Wesley, who half-connected with his right foot before it founds its way into Anderson’s bottom corner.

Joel Latibeaudiere had a golden chance to restore the lead for the Young Lions when he latched onto a corner unmarked on the half hour mark, only to see his header frustratinly sail over the bar.

Brazil then countered during a period which was indicative of the first-half back-and-forth between these vibrant sides.

Sao Paulo forward Brenner found himself one-on-one with Anderson, but poked agonisingly wide.

There was a growing sense that the next goal would relieve the pressure which was building palpably at Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium.

And it was England, and the impressive Brewster, again who struck. The striker netted his sixth goal of the tournament when he was once again found by a wide man, this time it was Phil Foden, who swept it across the face of goal.

The ball zipped past Gabriel Brazao and a clutch of Brazilian defenders before reaching Brewster at the back post before the Liverpool man showed fleetness of both foot and mind to restore the lead.

Brewster’s ambition did not end there. Forget his hat-trick in 4-1 win over USA in the quarter-final, he wanted more.

Emile Smith-Rowe, a 68th-minute substitute, burst forward with fresh legs as the game entered its latter stages, but Brewster still had that burning desire to break into the box.

Smith-Rowe found him and, as we had come to expect, Brewster punished from just 10 yards out and put the final nail in the Brazilian coffin.
