Scott Sloan and Christopher Byrne of Sloans Salon in North Sydney have looked after the 66-year-old politician’s hair for years now, but never was there a more important cut and style than last week’s red carpet.
Since Julie split from her ex-boyfriend of eight years David Panton in July this year, she has done what many women in the midst of a breakup do: change her hair.

After swapping her shoulder-length blonde locks for a short asymmetrical bob in August, Julie went even further this month when she arrived at the Moët event with a stylish pixie cut and a new man on her arm.
The new man in question was self-described ‘adventure philanthropist’ and Managing Director of a multinational PPE business Luke Hepworth.
The pair have been snapped at several high-profile events recently, and they feature heavily on each other’s Instagram accounts.
But Luke has insisted that the pair are just ‘good friends’, telling the Telegraph ‘we are definitely not dating’.
Julie completed her new look at the Moët event with bulging triceps, a figure-hugging designer dress, statement drop earrings and a short blonde cut that says ‘I mean business’.

When it comes to the style of her hair, Sloans Director Scott Sloan is responsible for Julie’s cut and overall style, while Senior Stylist Christopher Byrne looks after the politician’s colour:
‘Julie is proof that you can look fabulous in your 60s and we love her for it,’ Scott told FEMAIL.
‘The key with this look we created for her was the shorter crop to frame the face while still keeping it feminine by keeping the edges soft.
‘There are no rules that say you can’t go long at this age, but shorter hair can be more flattering as longer hair can pull the face down, while a shorter cut lifts.

Your twenties
‘In your twenties, it’s all about having fun and experimenting,’ Christopher said.
‘There are generally two approaches for this age: all out experimentation or low maintenance, undone hair like Hailey Bieber.’
If you’re feeling adventurous, the pair recommend trying anything from a bright colour to a buzz cut.
‘In the salon, we’re seeing plenty of feminine wolf shag cuts, dramatic crops and festival-ready braids.
‘For colour, bright copper shades are very popular along with plenty of dramatic platinum looks thanks to Kim Kardashian.’
If you want to keep it simple, they recommend adding a colour gloss to highlight your natural shade.

Your thirties
When it comes to your thirties, the pair said you might want to think about and refine your personal style.
‘This is where clients naturally start to think more about their lifestyle and personal style and fashion choices,’ Scott said.
‘A consultation normally involves a more in-depth discussion and long-term plan with your stylist to highlight your best hair features and emphasise them with a bigger investment and commitment.’
Blonde is the most popular colour in their salon, with balayage also being popular with clients.
‘Your thirties are also a great time to work on growing out the hair for the wow factor of those tumbling mermaid-esque beachy curls,’ Christopher added.

Your forties
When it comes to your forties, Scott and Christopher said it’s time to embrace your natural colour, style and texture.
‘This decade is usually the time when clients truly embrace the confidence to be themselves and you might find that those curls you have been straightening or the straight hair you’ve been curling takes centre stage,’ Scott said.
At this time, greys may also be making an appearance, so you can look at tints and foils to help camouflage and soften your overall look.
During this decade, the pair said they create lots of lobs (or long bobs) – because they are a flattering, no-fuss look which is ‘incredibly sexy and youthful’.
‘This is the key time for clients to review their cut and check that it’s flattering for their face shape,’ Scott said.

‘There is something stunning about embracing these platinum strands and making them look amazing on you.’
In the salon, Chris said he works on toning the shade to remove any brassiness, while Scott creates a cut that will help with managing the texture.
‘Hair can start to thin at this age and the texture of grey hair is actually a great way to get a thicker, fuller look,’ Christopher said.
‘It can also be a great time to experiment with a fringe as side-swept fringes can soften the face and hide the forehead if that’s a concern.’

Your sixties
Finally, when it comes to your sixties, the pair said you should follow Julie’s lead and opt for a ‘cut and colour that is perfectly suited to you’.
‘In the salon for those wanting to move away from grey, we would avoid highlights and create an overall colour, working with a warmer, brighter blonde rather than an ash blonde,’ Christopher said.
‘A warmer shade not only helps to counteract any grey, but it also adds warmth back into the complexion as skin changes.’
Scott added: ‘It’s important to focus on the face shape to bring out the most flattering features by drawing the eyes to make those areas a focal point of the finished cut’.
