Rebecca Ferguson, 31, never farted in front of Zayn, 24

They dated for four months following tstint on The X Factor.

And Rebecca Ferguson has made the rather bizarre admission that she never farted in front of Zayn Malik when she was seeing him, speaking on Thursday’s edition of This Morning.

The 31-year-old singer has a self-imposed rule that she never breaks wind in front of her lovers, although she admits holding it in during the first few dates can lead to a painful stomach, and she often wants the guy to leave so she can ‘get a little bit loose’.

Tooting her own horn: Rebecca Ferguson made the rather bizarre admission that she never farted in front of Zayn Malik when she dated him on Thursday’s edition of This Morning

The brunette beauty – who was appearing as a guest panelist – was part of a discussion about whether it’s possible to be too comfortable with a partner, before the chat turned to flatulence.

Rebecca said: ‘It’s early days with me and my boy at the minute, but I’m kind of … No, I don’t, ever.

‘But, what I do think is when you get to the stage where you’ve – we’ve all been there – the first couple of dates where your belly is absolutely killing you and you just want them to go, because you’re like … that’s when you need to go “Look love, I like you a lot but it’s time for things to get a little bit loose”.’

The Nothing’s Real But Love singer was then asked specifically about her relationship with former One Direction star Zayn and she was adamant she ‘definitely didn’t’ fart when he was around.

She said: ‘I definitely didn’t, with that particular partner. I didn’t, no.’

When the Loose Women panelists giggled and said, ‘So he still thinks you just don’t fart’, a blushing Rebecca declared, ‘he still thinks I’m an angel’.

Although she may not have broken wind in front of the Pillowtalk hitmaker – who is now in a long-term relationship with Gigi Hadid – Rebecca previously claimed she paid for almost all the dates they went on during their time together, as Zayn was still a teenager and had very little cash at the time.

During a separate appearance on Loose Women in August this year, Rebecca admitted she would frequently foot the bill while dining out with the young singer – who was already on the cusp of fame and considerable fortune when they started dating.

She was debating the contentious issue of men believing the opposite sex are only interested in wealth.

‘I’ve dated people in the past that have taken money off me,’ she said, referring to a difficult past relationship that almost led to the star frittering away her fortune.

‘I’m a bit of a doormat. I had been burnt in the past and I tend to date wrong’uns. Thankfully my friend did some investigating and I could have seriously got financially burnt.

‘It’s a personal experience; no-one should depend on anyone and I don’t want a man to depend on me. I probably help too much.’

The Liverpudlian singer’s relationship with Zayn began in 2011, as they prepared for a UK wide tour following separate appearances on the seventh series of British talent show The X Factor.

Their romance attracted attention because Rebecca was a 24-year-old mother-of-two, while he was just 18.

And Rebecca conceded the age gap inevitably led to her paying for Zayn during their four-month fling.

Prompted about her time with the singer, who has since gone on to earn millions with One Direction, she added: ‘I was 23 and he was 18. I would pay the bill quite a lot. People will be quite surprised by that. But I’d split the bill now.’

After a break from relationships, Rebecca – who has since given birth to her third child with an unnamed former partner – admitted she is ready to meet someone new.

‘My confidence is getting better and I think I’m ready to date someone nice now,’ she said.

The pop star – who grew up in an impoverished environment in Liverpool – was back on Loose Women nine-months after revealing that she’d been sexually abused at the age of eight while living in care at a children’s home.

Rebecca kept the horrific experience from her family and has admitted her mum was heartbroken when she found out about the incident at the same time as the public.

She told the panel: ‘t was really awkward. If I’m honest, I think my mum was really upset. It was kind of like an awkward hug.’

Although she had initial concerns about opening up about the experience, Rebecca revealed she was pleased she shared her story because it forced her to face her demons and re-evaluate why she falls for unsuitable men.

‘It was kind of a life-changing moment when I opened up on the show actually,’ she said. ‘After the show I was like, “Wow I’ve got issues that I’ve never really dealt with.”

‘I went home and I started to evaluate my life choices and why I keep choosing bad relationships and I thought it all stems from what’s happened to me.

‘I’ve just had a good clear out – I’ve got all positive people around me now – so it was really life changing. I’m glad I done it.’
