Salim Mehajer’s Mercedes seized and analysed by forensics

Disgraced businessman Salim Mehajer’s smashed car has been seized by police following allegations of ‘questionable insurance claims’.

The Mercedes V8 Turbo had been taken to a wreck repairer in Greenacre, west of Sydney, but has now been moved to allow forensic teams the chance to inspect the vehicle, Seven News reports.

The former Auburn deputy mayor was on his way to court in the 4WD on October 16 when it was involved in a crash on Delhi Street in Lidcombe.

Mr Mehajer was trapped inside the vehicle for 20 minutes, before he was taken to hospital with neck injuries.

Police attended the crash about 8.45am, with a spokeswoman stating an investigation was underway.

However, it is not clear if the investigation relates to the crash or an insurance claim filed just a day later, as Mehajer lay in a hospital bed.

The vehicle was reportedly insured for $160,000 a week before the crash, according to Seven News.

In one crash, a Landcruiser allegedly linked to Mehajer ran into another Landcruiser that had reportedly run a red light at an intersection.

And a second crash in December 2016 saw a Mercedes reported to be linked to the businessman t-boned at an intersection.

Meanwhile, Mr Mehajer failed to show up to two separate hearings following the crash, with his lawyer producing a medical certificate to excuse his absence.
