Hundreds slam ‘deadbeat’ dad for complaining his wife is ‘nagging’ him for money while on maternity leave: ‘I won’t let her treat me like an ATM’
- A new dad claims his wife is asking him for money while on maternity leave
- The couple split expenses 50/50 despite her making less while on leave
- The dad only contributes as much as his wife despite earning much more
A new dad has been slammed online for complaining that his wife is ‘always nagging him for money’ while she’s on maternity leave with their four-month-old twins.
In a post to Reddit, a woman named Jessica, who knows the couple, asked if she was in the wrong for calling the dad, Mark, a ‘deadbeat’ for contributing to household finances well below what he actually earns.
Redditors agreed with Jessica’s stance and said the man should be willing to provide more for his family.
Mark and his partner Caitlyn had agreed to split household expenses 50/50 while the new mum was working but now her parental payments are just a fraction of what she used to make.

Despite Caitlyn’s shortcomings, Mark is sticking to the original agreement and complained to Jessica that Caitlyn is ‘always nagging him and asking him for his money’.
‘He said he is afraid that she will start treating him like an ATM, but he won’t let her,’ Jessica wrote.
‘Caitlyn is taking care of four-month-old twins alone all day and Mark is only contributing financially the same amount as Caitlyn’s maternity pay, despite making six times as much.’

Jessica told Mark that he was acting like a ‘deadbeat’ but he fought back and refused to believe he was in the wrong.
‘He said that the money is well enough for their family, and he will end up using the money he saved to buy a house,’ she said.
‘He ranted that he is building their future and don’t I dare call him a deadbeat.’
She asked if she was wrong for calling him a deadbeat despite being present in his children’s life and contributing financially.
Hundreds took to the comments to slam the dad for ‘degrading’ his partner.
‘He has equal responsibilities to support his children and their mother; and he’s not only disrespecting the enormous amount of unpaid work she’s doing to keep his babies safe and well, he’s belittling his wife’s personhood by reducing her to nothing other than a financial contribution to the household,’ one user said.
‘If he didn’t marry a beggar then he shouldn’t be forcing her to behave as one due to a situation for which he had equal part in putting her into.’
‘I absolutely cannot understand these men,’ a second wrote.
‘It should be proportional to their salaries. He makes five times more, he should contribute a LOT more. Is he going to buy the house under his name? She needs to speak to a lawyer ASAP,’ a third replied.
‘If she divorces him he’ll realise how much child support actually is,’ another pointed out.
‘He’s worse than a deadbeat. He’s financially abusive,’ someone added.
