You may have heard of the usual, run-of-the-mill ‘Style Personalities’ such as Dramatic, Classic and Artistic – but Royal Style Tribes are a league above.
The women of the royal family have to glam up for some of the world’s most glamorous events – as well as dress down for their beloved country jaunts – but which style queen provides the inspiration for your wardrobe?
If you’re a fan of bright colours, chances are you’ve been influenced by the late Queen who always knew how to catch the eye, and was confident with her bold looks, which were always tailored to perfection.
However, if ripped jeans and a boyfriend shirt are more your thing, then your more likely drawn by the Duchess of Sussex and her California girl chic.
Are you classic and controlled like the Princess of Wales? Or a California cool girl like the Duchess of Sussex?
Meanwhile, the impeccably polished Princess of Wales never has so much as a crease in sight, but it’s a very high-maintenance look to pull off.
You may find you have more in common with Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie who try hard to keep up in the style stakes, but have been known to be a little ‘chaotic’ to say the least.
Here stylist to the stars Miranda Holder breaks down their different looks for FEMAIL here – and says you might find you are more than one…
PRINCESS OF WALES
Polished, elegant and controlled
You never deviate from the same winning silhouette, rotating a carefully curated collection of near identical garments, all of which flatter your best bits without taking any unnecessary risks
As a member of Kate’s Style Tribe you are often accused by the Boho set of being boring and playing it safe – but those hippies are wrong – and the reality is you exude nothing but poise and elegance.
Over time, you have invested considerable effort into refining your appearance and have consequently mastered the art of dressing well. Thanks to your dedication, you now make it look effortless, and are reaping the rewards as the compliments flood in.
Stylist Miranda Holder shared her fashion know-how with Femail and revealed which royal style icon inspires your wardrobe
Looking this good didn’t always come naturally to you, but, as with everything in life, you gave your all to studying exactly what does and doesn’t suit you, and have perfected a trusty personal uniform which never lets you down.
You never deviate from the same winning silhouette, rotating a carefully curated collection of near identical garments, all of which flatter your best bits without taking any unnecessary risks. You prefer an uncluttered, tailored look, giving fuss and frills a wide berth…the shame of being mistaken for a commoner is to be avoided at all costs…
Shopping is executed with military precision, as you hone in on the perfect pieces with an eagle eye. Immaculately cut, British brands are your go-to, with a sprinkle of High Street – but the labels you champion are actually irrelevant, as your careful composure makes the cheapest of pieces look expensive.
Attention to detail is paramount, your makeup is always artfully applied and you are careful to ensure that not a single glossy, blow-dried strand of hair is out of place. Every aspect of your appearance is meticulously managed down to the last millimetre, making certain those bad hair days and unflattering photographs remain firmly in the past.

Men are dazzled by your beauty, whilst women intimidated by your presence either find you aloof, or hail you as a fashion icon whilst clamouring to be your friend in the vain hope you might share your secret.
Style Stars: Knitted co-ords, tailored dresses, fitted coats nipped in at the waist, discreet, classy accessories and plenty of nude court shoes. Belts with everything.
Shop from: Alexander McQueen for tailoring, Jenny Packham for glam, Allessandra Rich for day dresses and Gianvitto Rossi for shoes.

Camilla
Creative, fun and unpredictable
When you’re not relaxing in country tweeds, in Camilla’s style tribe, anything A line is a winner
If you’re in Camilla’s Style Tribe you are a woman who knows exactly what she wants.
You have an irrepressible appetite for life, which you apply to your wardrobe with gusto, wearing precisely what pleases you at any given moment, with absolutely no concern about what the rules might be and to hell with what others may think.
Lesser women could not carry this look off, but curiously your unconventional style and eccentricity is as charming as it is refreshing. Nothing is off limits sartorially speaking, and you thoroughly enjoy expressing yourself with whatever takes your fancy, from feathers and clashing prints to welly boots accessorised with ‘in your face’ Tiaras. It really shouldn’t work, but somehow your inner joie de vivre pulls the whole look together and makes it a thing.
You refuse to be pigeon-holed into anything, from your personal style to life in general – one moment you could be in full country garb, letting it all hang out, mud drying on your knees and a brace of pheasants jauntily swinging from one shoulder, the next, you are dressed up to the nines, rocking your most sensational jewellery with the gaudiest of gowns.
Your non-conformist approach will often divide a crowd. Fans will applaud you for being unapologetically who you are whilst enjoying your zany, experimental style, whereas critics will condemn you as irreverent, unpredictable and disrespectful. Such disapproval is merely water off a duck’s back however, as being a seasoned Camilla triber, you are comfortable with controversy and accustomed to being ostracised.
One moment you could be in full country garb, mud drying on your knees and a brace of pheasants swinging from one shoulder, the next, you are dressed up to the nines
Once people get to know you however, they are utterly charmed by your infectious energy, vicious joke telling and very dirty laugh. You are the heart and soul of every gathering and know how to work a room, even if you did bring your brace of pheasants and tin of saddle soap with you.
Your shopping habits are as diverse as your outfits, and you simply go where the mood takes you, picking up pieces from farm shops, vintage emporiums and designers alike – when you’re not relaxing in country tweeds, anything A line is a winner, especially when teamed with flamboyant headwear crowning your slightly unruly, larger than life hair.
Style Stars: Sensible block heeled shoes, modest two piece skirt suits, vertically striped dresses and A line everything will fit the bill – or tweeds and Du Barry wellingtons when larking about in the country. Don’t forget the showy jewellery and larger than life headpieces!
Shop from: Bruce Oldfield, Anna Valentine and Fiona Clare with DuBarry wellingtons and comfy shoes from Sole Bliss.

Beatrice & Eugenie
Feminine, Romantic and chaotic
If you are part of Beatrice & Eugenie’s tribe, you may well feel like you are living in the wrong century.
Your style has a certain ‘whimsical sensitivity’ to it which feels more at home in a Jane Austen novel than in the midst of modern frenetic life.
You shy away from restrictive, tailored fabrics, preferring to flounce around in romantic floaty confections. Pinks and pastels are your favourites, and the more intricate the design or embellished the fabric the more beautiful you feel.
You are unmistakably a girl’s girl, and you dress to match that ethos; you love everything feminine, floral and frilly and adore getting dressed up in your finery for special occasions, but unfortunately your ample enthusiasm doesn’t always deliver the best results.
You are unmistakably a girl’s girl, and you dress to match that ethos; you love everything feminine, floral and frilly and adore getting dressed up in your finery for special occasions
Looking pretty is terribly important to you, but you tend to be a bit of a ‘manic magpie’ on the fashion front and get a bit carried away – (Coco Chanel would turn in her grave at some of your ensembles) – so you would benefit from hanging out with the Meghan tribers for a while and studying their less is more approach.
Your preferred shopping strategy is to do so in big girly gaggles, providing plenty of reassurance, comfort and support for when you’re facing those awfully unflattering changing room mirrors. Later you’ll gather over tea and cake to celebrate your purchases, whilst planning the fanciest of Baby Showers and catching up on a good gossip about who fancies who, your shrieks of laughter bouncing off the walls, still clearly audible several streets away.
Fresh-faced makeup is your forte; keeping your skin dewy and larger than life eyes bambi-wide with lashings of mascara. Your hairstyles softly frame your pretty face and you have an affinity for hats and headpieces – for which you should never, ever go shopping on your own.
Style Stars: Floral midi dresses, old fashioned tailoring, extra hats and anything that looks like it belongs in the 80’s (fergie bows included) is your go-to, keep a special eye out for flouncy maternity dresses
Shop from: Self Portrait, Zimmerman, Roksanda and Philip Treacy for hats
Affordable Alternatives: Monsoon and Accessorize
The Queen
Traditional with a bold, dramatic twist
Your wardrobe is bold and beautiful, featuring a rainbow of dramatic outfits in vivid colours
If you are one of The Queen’s style tribe, you feel like you were always born to stand out and feel perfectly at home in the limelight.
You relish being the centre of attention and dress accordingly, almost as if it was your birthright. Your wardrobe is bold and beautiful, featuring a rainbow of dramatic outfits in vivid colours. Even in a crowd, it really is hard to miss you, but that of course is how you like it.
Though you are a committed colour lover, your silhouettes are less flamboyant, preferring more modest, conservative cuts, which don’t detract from your naturally commanding presence. With your image remaining reassuringly constant for years, your fashion formula is so recognisable, it has become a key component of your personal brand.
Known for your impeccable manners and enjoying the finer things in life, comfort and quality are just as important to you as great style. Your clothes are of the highest calibre, and if not made to measure in the first place, are altered to a bespoke fit by a trusted seamstress. Garment care is also vital, with every precious piece meticulously maintained as if it were a family heirloom.
As a Queenie, you have a weakness for beautifully crafted accessories, understanding their unique power to elevate any outfit. The matchy matchy look is your favourite and you are the proud owner of an extensive (mostly top-handled) handbag collection, several hats, and even umbrellas in vibrant hues which compliment your colourful monochrome ensembles. You are also one of the few women who can really rock a headscarf without getting all Bridget Jones on us.
You are one of the few women who can really rock a headscarf without getting all Bridget Jones on us
Despite the air of authority which surrounds you, you have a remarkable ability to put others at ease, dressing considerately with little touches you know will make them feel special and you love nothing better than sharing tea and marmalade sandwiches whilst despairing of the latest resident of 10 Downing Street with your furry friend from Peru.
Behind the stoic composure and serene smile, there’s an unmistakable twinkle in your eye. When required, you can drink an army of Beefeaters under the table with a generous supply of gin cocktails and, not to be defeated by the trifles of getting older, have recently found a passion for extreme sports, with a particular fondness for Skydiving.
Style Stars: Matchy matchy dress coats and shift dresses in bold colours. Make sure your hat matches and don’t forget your headscarf!
Shop from: Launer for handbags, Garrard & Co for Jewels, Fulton for the very best umbrellas, the rest of your wardrobe should be made to measure…

Meghan
Relaxed, free-spirited California cool
In the Meghan tribe, denim shorts, loose fitting shirts and baseball caps are your happy place
Meghan tribers are natural girls at heart, and if you are one of them, you’ll be most at home in relaxed, non-restrictive clothing allowing you to enjoy feeling unhampered and carefree.
Cut off denim shorts, loose fitting shirts and baseball caps are your happy place, and your closet overflows with quality, unfussy separates which all mix and match together with ease.
Life can’t always be barefoot chic, so naturally you own a few tailored pieces to smarten up when needed. Your ‘hero piece’ is a beautifully tailored Camel Coat which you throw on over everything from active-wear to cocktail dresses, whenever you need to feel glamorous.
Your ‘clean girl aesthetic’ extends to unfussy hairstyles and minimal makeup, as you let your skin breathe and your natural beauty take centre stage. Freedom is important to you – not only in terms of how you dress, but the way in which you live your life.
Rules and etiquette – whether sartorially speaking or otherwise – feel suffocating, and you naturally push against these, preferring to conduct yourself in a way which naturally feels right.
Your sense of adventure and inner strength helps you to view every hurdle that comes your way as a challenge to be overcome, and you gamely seize every opportunity to change the world for the better.
Your ‘hero piece’ is a beautifully tailored Camel Coat which you throw on over everything from active-wear to cocktail dresses, whenever you need to feel glamorous
Men fall in love with your natural radiance and broad smile, but underneath it all there’s an inner grit and determination which is a veritable force to be reckoned with, and you are perfectly prepared to kiss, cajole – even run over – as many frogs as are needed, in order to find your Prince.

Zara Tindall
Confident but disorganised and haphazard
Being an accomplished sportswoman, you have a relatively short attention span. You usually opt for a riding jacket and jodhpurs
If you have a love-hate relationship with fashion, you are definitely in Zara’s tribe.
You love the idea of dressing up and looking fabulous, but you hate all the faff and planning that’s involved and get bored easily.
Being an accomplished sportswoman, you have a relatively short attention span, and, if the adrenaline hasn’t kicked in after the first 10 minutes, you’ll happily abandon the task at hand in search of your next more stimulating thrill.
When the frustration of attempted outfit assembly inevitably kicks in, you usually end up chucking on the most convenient ensemble in your rush to have fun, but never quite end up ‘carrying it off’.
If all else fails as you hurry to get out of the door, you can always fall back on your trusty jodhpurs and hacking jacket which, let’s face it, you probably fell out of bed wearing anyway.
The wonderful thing about being in the Zara tribe however, is that once you are out and about, you couldn’t give a monkeys about your appearance, being far more focussed on enjoying yourself and having a good time. In fact, you could turn up to the races wearing nothing but a riding hat and still have the best day ever, embodying the fact that confidence, above all else, is the most important ingredient in any style repertoire.
In the Zara tribe, once you are out and about, you couldn’t give a monkeys about your appearance, being far more focussed on enjoying yourself and having a good time
The reality of the situation is that being stylish doesn’t come naturally to you – which is perfectly ok, seeing as we’ve all been given different gifts – (I’m sure the Kate lot probably struggle to read a map, for example) – and in truth, it’s not high enough on your priority list to warrant the time and energy it requires to sort out.
The result is a mish-mash of disjointed outfits with no particular theme, style or colour pulling them all together. Some of which work, others definitely don’t, all of which would benefit from a little session or two with a personal stylist.
Shopping is equally haphazard and you have no compunction to show loyalty to any particular brands, colours or styles.
Much of the time you can’t bear to part with your cash for the pricey high-end designers, and as you are normally in a rush, invariably ending up in the familiar ‘one stop shop’ which caters for every occasion from Ascot to Asda; ironically the high street behemoth also known as Zara.
Style Stars: Jodhpurs, hacking dresses, floral tea dresses, high heels and fascinators
Shop from: Zara, Diana von Furstenburg, Zimmerman Holland & Cooper for anything equestrian
Affordable Alternatives: Mole Country Stores or Zara
Diana
Rebellious, sensuous and coquettish
When you enter a room, all eyes are on you – you just carry yourself differently – and the effect is mesmerising
The Diana tribers were born to shake things up.
You were never made to follow the rules, fashion or otherwise, and you shouldn’t even bother to try; doing so will only restrain your creative spirit and leave you feeling depressed, unseen and under appreciated.
Yours is a star quality that all others aspire to, but fail to emulate. When you enter a room, all eyes are on you – you just carry yourself differently – and the effect is mesmerising.
You are a natural clothes horse, and would still look beautiful in the very ugliest of sheep-emblazoned woolly jumpers, but, being rather shy, fashion is your outlet and the way in which you communicate your deepest thoughts and feelings to the outside world.
You are a natural clothes horse, and would still look beautiful in the very ugliest of sheep-emblazoned woolly jumpers
Men want to protect you, drawn to your fragility, and women relate to your vulnerability whilst being consistently inspired by your extraordinary style.
For you, fashion is a delicious buffet just begging to be sampled, and the enticing meal variations are endless.
You have the unique ability to make every outfit feel fresh and exciting, as if we were witnessing it for the first time. You can turn your talents to any look from a vengeful black cocktail dress to cycling shorts and ugly trainers. Every look is unapologetically your own, and you wear it on your terms.
Accessories are fanciful playthings, enhancing your already captivating look, you defy convention and wear things your way, defining new trends in your wake.
But perhaps the most alluring qualities of all are your quiet coquettishness combined with your rebellious sensuality. A heady combination which makes you very, very sexy.
Style Stars: Cycling Shorts, Knitted jumpers, Polka dots, Skirt Suits and revenge dresses
