Men and women are looking for very different things when they flick through dating profiles, an expert has revealed, and there are different words men and women should include to ensure a match.
Relationship expert at Dua.com Valon Assani said men should always include a line about being a non-smoker – while women could get more matches if they mention beer.
The experts looked at the Tinder profiles of 15,525 straight men and women to work out which five words men and women used the most.
These keywords translate to what their ‘ideal match’ should mention.

Top 5 words MEN should mention in their dating profile
1. Non-smoker
Non-smoker takes the top spot for the most frequently mentioned word in a woman’s dating profile.
Regarding smoking habits, women are far more likely to describe themselves as a non-smoker than men. A massive 47 per cent of women’s profiles mention the keyword ‘non-smoker’ compared to a man’s 27 per cent.
‘This data suggests that smoking habits are a large part of what women look for in a partner,’ Valon said.
‘Rather than leaving out smoking habits, men might consider adding this detail to their profile for a better chance of a match, especially as 20 per cent of men’s profiles are missing the mention of the keyword ‘non-smoker’.’
2. Travel
Another under-used keyword on men’s dating profiles is ‘travelling’. Of the dating profiles analysed, 30 per cent of women’s profiles listed travelling in their bio.
The study found that 17 per cent of men’s dating profiles were missing the mention of travel.
‘Men should consider advertising their adventurous side on their dating profile, and perhaps include pictures of past trips to get a woman’s attention,’ Valon said.
3. Dog
Pet preferences may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of finding a romantic partner, but to 33 per cent of women, dogs are very significant.
Dogs are actually the most frequently mentioned thing in a man’s dating profile, with 1,499 men featuring the lovable pets in their Tinder bio, but women mention them considerably more.
Make it clear that you are a dog lover, and you might just see more matches coming through on your dating apps, she advised.

4. Wine
Moving onto drinking habits, 14 per cent of women mention wine in their dating profile bios compared to just three per cent of men.
Adding a love of wine to your dating profile may secure more matches, as 11 per cent of men’s profiles are missing this detail.
5. Coffee
When it comes to caffeinated beverages, coffee may be the way to a woman’s heart, as 15 per cent of women in the study mentioned coffee in their bio.
In comparison, just five per cent of men’s profiles in this study mentioned coffee.
‘Advertising your love of coffee might just help you find your perfect match and would also be a tremendous first-date suggestion,’ the expert said.
Top 5 words WOMEN should mention in their dating profile
1. Beer
Beer is featured in 16 per cent of men’s dating profiles compared to 6 per cent of women’s profiles, according to the report.
‘The fact that men are more likely to mention beer in their profiles than women means there is an opportunity for women to tip the scales and increase their chances of getting a match,’ they said.
‘Rather than leaving out details of your favourite beer, women might consider adding this to their profile for a better chance of a match, especially as 10 per cent of women’s profiles are missing the mention of ‘beer’,’ Valon said.

2. Sports
When it came to entertainment and hobbies, the next under-used word in women’s dating bios is ‘sports’.
Some 10 per cent of men mention their love of sports, compared to a woman’s three per cent. Women looking for a sporty guy might want to consider including the word ‘sports’ in their bio to catch the eye of more single bachelors.
‘Make sure to use the generalised term ‘sports’ for a wider reach; this can act as a conversation starter leading onto your favourite sports, teams and players,’ Valon said.
3. Pubs
Going hand in hand with beer, visiting pubs is a popular pastime for many single men, as 10 per cent of their dating profiles mention the word.
Adding a love of visiting pubs might secure more matches, as four per cent of women’s profiles are missing the word ‘pubs’.
4. Gym rat
Regarding health habits, it is clear from the data that women are more likely to mention a love of the gym, with 1,386 mentions compared to men’s 949.
Having said that, men are more likely to describe themselves as ‘gym rat’.
‘A ‘gym rat’ is someone who spends an unusually large amount of time at the gym, and 17 per cent of men describe themselves in this way on their dating profile.’ Valon said.
‘Perhaps upgrading the mention of the gym to a description of being a ‘gym rat’ will secure women more matches with fellow active men.’
5. Carnivore
Eating habits are a popular thing to include in dating profiles, especially for meat eaters.
Of all the diets featured in the study, a carnivore is the most popular descriptor, with 11.07 per cent of men and 10.55 per cent of women describing themselves in this way.
‘Although this is a fairly even distribution, more men still describe themselves as carnivores than women,’ Valon said.
‘Women might consider mentioning the term ‘carnivore’ for a match with a fellow meat-eater.’
