Young mum divides parents after admitting she’d rather go to work than stay at home looking after her kids for ‘days on end’: ‘It’s much easier’
- Working mum said she prefers her days going to the office
- She said staying at home with the kids is harder
An Aussie mum has shared her controversial opinion saying being a stay-at-home parent is harder than going to work.
Working mum Sarah Torresan, from Melbourne, said she would choose to go to work over looking after the kids ‘every time’ after a rough night.
She said she prefers her work days over those with the kids because she gets time alone to listen to podcasts during her commute, gets to enjoy a hot coffee, has conversations with adults and comes home excited to see her children.
Sarah’s take divided mums in the comments as many said they would rather look after their kids all day over going to stressful job.

‘OK, I feel like I’m qualified to speak to this because I have both working days and stay-at-home Mondays and I want to tell you something that the working parent probably doesn’t want stay at home parents to know,’ Sarah said in a TikTok clip.
‘Going to work is so much easier than staying home with kids – and here’s why.’
The mum said her work day consists of listening to music or a podcast by herself during her commute then getting a coffee as she walks through the city to her office.
‘I get to go to the office, have adult conversations with other people, work using part of my brain that I haven’t used in a long time then I get to commute home, again listening to music or podcast alone,’ she said.
Sarah said she would chose to go to work over looking after the kids ‘every time’ after a rough night and the sleep of the stay-at-home parent should be ‘prioritised’
‘And then I miss my kids and I can’t wait to see them and they can’t wait to see me either.’
On the flip side, Sarah said, if she’s at home with the kids for ‘days on end’ she could go days without having a ‘normal human conversation’.
‘From the second you open your eyes in the morning until you close them at night you are putting out fires over the most insanely irrational things,’ Sarah explained.
‘It’s constant conflict, it’s constant everyone else’s needs, you’re being yelled at for things, it is all about what you need to do for someone else.’
Sarah said she ‘barely gets a hot coffee’ and rarely gets time to sit down and think about anything other than what she needs to do to keep the kids happy.
‘Most stay at home parents would dream of sitting in a car for 45 minutes and listening to a podcast or drinking a hot coffee with a coworker,’ she said.
‘Of course there’s caveats to this based on what you do for work or what your partner does for work but my point is overnight whose sleep should really be prioritised?’
The divisive clip racked up more than 69,500 views and sparked a lively debate in the comments.
Many mums agreed with Sarah’s take with one saying: ‘Work is my payed break from my stay-at-home mum job’.
‘I’m a chef so I pretty much get paid to do what I do at home but without the stress of juggling a baby. Work is such a nice break,’ another replied.
‘Been a stay at home mum from 2020 is literally killing me, I don’t even know how to interact with other adults,’ laughed a third.
‘Couldn’t agree more. When I went back to work in between my two kids my days were so much easier. It’s exhausting being home all day with kids,’ another said.
However some parents loved staying home all day with their kids with one calling it ‘basically a holiday’.
‘I absolutely would not prefer to be at work… been a stay-at-home mum for eight years and I can do whatever I want,’ one parent disagreed.
‘Maybe it’s because I work in aged care but staying home with my kids is easier for me than working,’ said another to which Sarah admitted: ‘The general consensus seems to be childcare, aged care workers and anyone whose job can be fatal get a pass’.
‘I’m a stay-at-home mum and it is 100 times easier than work. Sure it has challenges but it’s basically a holiday for me,’ a third added.
