The great ewe-scape! Mischievous sheep pulls the wool over farmers’ eyes after figuring out how to unlock her pen and roam free while no-one is looking
Farm staff who had been puzzled after some of their animals kept escaping were astounded to find out that a very clever sheep had figured out how to unlock the gate to her pen so that she can roam free.
After weeks of mischief at Whitehouse Farm Centre in Morpeth, Northumberland, staff members set up a hidden camera to find out who was causing chaos.
And when the camera captured Lucy the Leicester sheep’s escape artistry, they were stunned by her intelligence.
Footage showed the ewe putting her head through the wooden fence and sliding the bolt open with her mouth. After a few seconds of struggle as she sampled different manoeuvers, Lucy successfully found the best angle to let herself in and out of the enclosure.
Workers at the farm were initially baffled when Lucy, the one-year-old black and white sheep, and her two fellow ewes kept getting away.
They decided to record what was going on, and study the footage for clues later.
To their surprise, the culprit was none other than their intelligent lamb.
In the video, which the farm posted on its Facebook page this week, Lucy can be seen checking left and right for oncoming staff before unlocking the pen and escaping.
The incriminating clip has since gone viral, with more than 5,100 shares and some 2,600 comments.
‘OMG A mystery has been solved today at Whitehouse farm,’ they wrote in the post. ‘We have been puzzled for sometime how the same pen of sheep keep getting out????

‘She kept looking at the blue rope to see if it was keeping the gate shut (surely that means she’d learned that can sometimes be true).
