A fish and chips shop have hit back at a customer who claimed he felt ‘robbed’ after spending £17.50 for his ‘king size’ fish dinner.
Yorkshire Fisheries in Blackpool, Lancashire, which is rated as the sixth best place to eat in the seaside town according to TripAdvisor, usually receives positive reviews.
However one unhappy customer thought he got a raw deal after paying £17.50 for his ‘good quality’ king sized meal.
The customer, from Barnsley, wrote: ‘£17.50 for fish & chips to eat in. Was supposed to be a (whopping fish) just large really!
‘Good quality, but hell, £17.50 for fish ‘n’ chips in out of season Blackpool chippy! I Honestly feel I’ve been robbed.’

Yorkshire Fisheries quickly defended themselves and said their prices do not change when there are no tourists in the area.
Owner Maria wrote: ‘I’m sorry to read that you feel that you have been robbed. As you can appreciate the cost of everything has gone up considerably and although you feel that you paid too much.
‘I would like to assure you and anyone else reading your review that our king size is filleted to double the weight of our standard size, which the majority of our customers find to be generous.
‘As regards pricing ‘out of season’, our prices, just like our overheads, remain the same regardless of time of year.
‘Like so many other businesses, we are determined to ride these tough times and continue to serve high quality fish and chips with the fantastic service which so many of our customers enjoy.’
Other customers have praised the chipper for it’s food quality, as well as service and cleanliness.
One person recently wrote: ‘We visited this chip shop as when we visit the seaside fish and chips is a must and I read a review of someone complaining of the cost.
‘Well, service, food freshly cooked and cleanliness were fabulous couldn’t complain about anything.
However the owner of the fish and chip show was quick to respond, saying they hoped to continue providing ‘high quality’ meals with ‘fantastic service’
‘Well, after 25 years I have to say it is not the same as it was. It is better. The food was just as good as it was 25 years ago when I last visited.
‘Worth the 2hr 20 minutes drive (we did visit other attractions) and we’ll be back for more.’
While another said: ‘One is rather concerned when returning to a place you have not visited for some time, especially when you had been boasting to your friend that it was the best fish and chip shop in the country.
The popular fish and chip shop has been around since 1907, when potatoes were delivered by horse and cart, and it has kept the same name over the years
‘However, in the meantime, the place has had a revamp and the furnishing has been updated. It is a lot nicer than it was. The service, if it was possible, has got even better.’
