Jurgen Klopp claims his side will ‘strike back’ and can chase down Champions League qualification

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists his side will strike back in the future and has backed his players to produce a run which could led to Champions League qualification this season.

Klopp’s side are currently nine points adrift of fourth placed Tottenham, ahead of their home match against Wolves.

The match is one of Liverpool’s two games in hand on the North London side, offering an opportunity to close the gap.

Klopp believes his side can produce the run required to secure qualification, after putting together similar streaks in recent seasons.

‘We have to force it, but we have to play and enjoy what we are doing, Klopp said.

‘I really think we are ready, if there is a club who can do it, I think it is us.

‘Because of all the things we achieved together over the last few years, none of that would have happened without the team or the crowd. 

‘We have a future together, the immediate future and a bigger picture as well. 

‘We will strike back in general but now we have to make sure we really squeeze everything out of this season what we can get.

‘I don’t know what it will be. The obvious spots are not too far away from us and we will see which one we can pick up.’

Klopp acknowledged Liverpool faced an ‘important week’ with home matches against Wolves and rivals Manchester United.

The Reds will be facing Wolves for a fourth time this year with Liverpool winning 1-0 in an FA Cup replay after a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Wolves recorded a 3-0 win over the Reds in their Premier League meeting at Molineux earlier this month.

Klopp said Wednesday’s fixture should be viewed as a chance to give their season a push, rather than ‘put right’ the defeat.

The Liverpool manager suggested a ‘steady mood’ was required as his side seek to build on a run of seven points from their last three Premier League matches.

Klopp confirmed Thiago and Joe Gomez will miss the match against Wolves due to injuries, but Ibrahima Konate and Darwin Nunez could be in contention after training on Monday.

Nunez missed the goalless draw with Crystal Palace with a shoulder problem, with Klopp saying the striker will be assessed ahead of Wolves visit to Anfield.

Luis Diaz is yet to return to full training, but is making good progress he continues individual rehabilitation from a knee injury.
