Horrific machete attack leaves four in hospital after terrifying home invasion

Four people have been hospitalised after five men broke into their home and assaulted them.

At about 1.15am on Saturday, NSW Police and emergency services were called to a home on Forbes Street in Muswellbrook following reports of an aggravated robbery.

Police were told five men, who were wearing balaclavas, forced with way into the home demanding money.

They were allegedly carrying weapons such as machetes, knives, hammers and a pole, and began assaulting the four occupants in the home.

The four people in the residence on Forbes Street (pictured, street view) aged 59, 47, 20 and 19 were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries 

A 59-year-old man, a 47-year-old woman, a 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were treated at the scene before being transferred to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle for further treatment.

The injuries sustained were not considered life threatening, however they included a suspected skull fracture, a broken jaw, broken arm and lacerations.

Two dogs were also attacked in the home and required vet treatment after being struck with machetes.

They are reported to be in a stable condition.

Officers from the Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries.
