A professional chef has revealed a simple way to remove meat from a crab with minimal waste.

Joshua Weissman, from the US, is a world-famous chef who has worked for several high-profile restaurants including Uchiko in Texas.

He recently revealed that watching crab meat go to waste was devastating when there’s an easy way to extract it from the legs.

‘There’s a secret to crab leg meat, and this mostly works with any kind of crustacean,’ he said in a video.

Weismann said that ‘cracking’ the meat by pressing down on the shell and peeling it back is rarely done well – and often spoils what’s inside.

‘Those little cracker things are destroying the meat inside,’ he said. ‘I don’t want to see any more ruined meat.’

In order to get most of the crab leg meat out, the professional chef first splits the leg at the joints and pulls it off.

Weismann then cuts the ends off with a pair of scissors so that the gap is wide enough to let the meat slide through.

Then, he holds the leg and gently slams down on his other hand in order to ‘tap’ the meat out.

If the process is done properly, a fully-intact crab leg will slide out of its shell.

He separates each segment and repeats the process.

Many couldn’t believe that the simple hack had been right in front of them all along.

‘No way, let’s see this,’ she said. ‘That can’t be so easy.’

But her disbelief soon turned to joy when she successfully tapped out a whole leg of meat.

‘Oh my god,’ she exclaimed as she immediately took a bite.

Weismann’s original video reached over 6.8million people with thousands impressed by his cooking hack.

‘My whole life is a lie,’ one woman wrote.

‘You cracked the code – this is perfect.’
