Shopper is lost for words after cashier’s heartwarming act at Woolworths

Shopper is lost for words after cashier’s heartwarming act at the checkout: ‘There’s still kindness in the world’

  • A supermarket cashier has earned praise
  • She paid for a broke woman’s bread rolls

A cash-strapped single mum-of-three has praised a kind cashier for helping her out at the checkout when she couldn’t come up with enough cash for the necessities.

The struggling mum explained she had gone to the shops after a difficult day, to get some staples for the family, only to find her vouchers didn’t quite cover it.

‘I ended up not being able to buy the rolls I had on the belt, and I asked the checkout lady if she could take them off the bill,’ she said.

‘She did, but instead paid for the rolls herself and gave them to me and my children.’

The stressed out mum, who was shopping at a store on the NSW Central Coast, said the lady’s kindness shined through from the beginning, after the mum told her she had been having a rough day.

‘You made an old tired mum, have faith there’s still kindness in the world,’ the mum said.

Adding that she doesn’t recall the ‘beautiful young lady’s name, but felt she needed to be praised for her efforts.

‘She made my day and turned it around with her kindness. So thankyou stranger,’ she said.

The mum admitted kind friends had given her the vouchers as the family had been having a particularly difficult time keeping food on the table.

A Woolworths spokesperson thanked the mum for her comments.

‘We’re pleased to hear about the wonderful kindness shown by one of our Team members,’ they said.

As other people admitted it made their day to think about how kind some people are.

Another woman saw the public praise, which was posted on the chain’s Facebook Page, and said her partner had also been treated with kindness in the past.

Her partner had ‘gone over by $10’ because his reward points didn’t register.

A stranger standing behind him offered to pay for the shopping – but the worker had already put it through herself.
