Wife wows after completely renovating her pantry in two weeks as a ‘surprise’ for husband who’s been away on business
- A mum completely renovated her pantry in two weeks to surprise her husband
- The DIY expert repainted walls, replaced shelves, and installed cabinets
A mum shared a brilliant pantry transformation that saw her completely repaint and renovate the room.
Melanie, from Sydney, was tired of looking at her run-down scullery with old paint on the walls and not enough storage space for all her essentials.
So when her husband took off on a two week business trip, the mum decided it was high time she pulled her socks up and got to work on the pantry.
While the mum had a difficult time drilling into her cement walls, she managed to set up new shelves, cabinets, and paint the accent wall a lovely turquoise.
She has spent $2200 on materials so far including the cabinets, paint, and lime wash stain – and estimates to drop a further $500 on the repairs.

‘My husband works in the mines, he’s been gone for two weeks and comes home tomorrow,’ the mum said. ‘I’ve been BUSY renovating our scullery.’
Melanie used Dulux paint, ordered the cabinets off of Flatpax, and bought her benchtops and lime wash stain from Bunnings.
She previously owned all the power tools she would need to complete the remodel.
The mum revealed that while there was still work to be done, she was sure her husband would be ‘shocked’ regardless.
Melanie was also grateful to have her 11-year-old daughter and two of her friends help her get the new fixings in through the window as they were too large to fit through the entryway.
She added in a row of white cabinets with light wooden benchtops along the walls so that the family would have additional space to store their belongings.

The mum also replaced a row of shelves with cabinets and space for a second refrigerator in order to be more economical with space.
She shared photos of her progress on a popular DIY mums group.
‘I need to finish the vertical joint panel splash-back, paint more walls, replace the melamine shelving, and add wall shelving above the cabinets and caulk.’
‘I just ran out of time to finish before he came home, but I cannot wait to style it up and start using it.’
Her husband was, indeed, pleasantly surprised to come home to Melanie’s hard work.
‘Hubby’s reaction was great, swear words were involved but in a nutshell: ‘Wow, you nailed it’.’

Hundreds of mums were impressed by how lovely Melanie’s pantry looked, and couldn’t wait to see the final results.
‘Wow, you are awesome. It looks great.’
‘You go girl! Looking fantastic. Great work. Cant wait to see the finished product.’
‘Great work, I absolutely love it! Your husband is one very lucky man to have a handy wife like you!’
