But David Beckham could only watch as Los Blancos received a rare humbling from Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.
The former England captain, 42, was in the stands at Wembley Stadium as Real Madrid suffered a surprise 3-1 Champions League mauling at the hands of the resurgent north London club.

Sporting a conventional plain white T-shirt, Beckham looked sombre as his former team – already struggling for consistency in the Spanish league – were woefully outplayed by manager Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Occupying a prime set of seats, the retired sportsman had good company in the form of son Romeo, 15, who mirrored his famous father’s relaxed style by wearing a baggy black hooded top.
Entrepreneurial football agent Dave Gardner – one of Beckham’s closest friends – was also present as Tottenham Hotspur claimed a historic victory against the Spanish side.

The ex-footballer was also joined by mother Sandra, pregnant younger sister Joanne and her fiance, former Big Brother contestant Kris Donnelly.
Gardner’s oldest son Grey made up the numbers, taking the seat directly in front of Beckham for the duration of the match.
Beckham’s latest appearance comes after he unveiled what appeared to be a tattoo of four birds of prey on his neck, joining numerous other works of body art including his daughter Harper’s name, a rose, a cross and a giant image of a horse.

He has numerous tattoos on his arms, neck, chest, back and now legs.
He recently unveiled a new seven tattoo on his right forefinger, in tribute to his former shirt number for both Manchester United and England, along with his daughter Harper’s middle name.
