I gave my seven-month-old baby a bacon sandwich – trolls have called it a ‘Jeremy Kyle version’ of weaning but they should mind their own business
A mother has sparked fierce debate online after giving her seven-month-old baby a bacon sandwich.
Earlier this month, the UK parent – who runs the TikTok account @mom_ofboysss – filmed herself preparing the meal for her son.
The video, which has amassed over 440,000 views, opens with the mother buttering two slices of thick white bread.
It then shows her placing four rashers of bacon straight onto the bread from the frying pan.
She then proceeds to add a generous topping of Heinz tomato ketchup before then cutting the sandwich into four pieces for her child.
The mother, from the UK, filmed a video of herself preparing a meal for her baby in her kitchen, which has now amassed over 440,000 views and sparked fierce debate
The clip ends with the mother dishing up the sandwich on a children’s plate along with a single cooked sausage and a hash brown.
Alongside the video, the mother told her 3,200 followers: ‘Dish up my seven month old’s first bacon sandwich.’
The video has racked up over 6,255 ‘likes’ in the past week – but viewers were divided over the mother’s approach to weaning.
One user commented: ‘Baby-led weaning… Jeremy Kyle [edition].’
Another joked: ‘Can of Red Bull on the side.’
Meanwhile, a third said: ‘A bacon sandwich at seven months?
‘Here I am giving my daughter vegetables everyday.’
In response to this comment, the mother wrote: ‘Live a little.’
The woman cut her baby’s sandwich into four pieces and also served them a cooked sausage and an unseasoned hash brown
The choice of meal sparked fierce debate in the comments – with some parents telling the mother that they wouldn’t give their baby a bacon sandwich
‘Ooooo girl,’ a fourth viewer said. ‘Each to their own but I’d be way too scared to give my seven month old that x’
Rushing to defend herself, the mother told the viewer: ‘No one’s asked you to feed it to yours.’
While a fifth critic took issue with the salt content of the bacon, the mother told them that she had not added any extra seasoning to her child’s meal.
However, others supported the mother’s weaning choices.
‘OMG I gave this to my seven month old and he loved it.’ one supporter said.
Another added: ‘Bet he loved every bite of that!’
‘One lucky boy,’ a third said. ‘Keep it up lass – a proper breakfast and a nice juice to wash it down.’
According to the NHS website, weaning typically starts when babies are around six months old and the experts recommend slowly introducing different food groups to prevent triggering any allergic reactions.
The guidance for babies aged seven to nine months reads: ‘Babies don’t need salt or sugar added to their food (or cooking water) – salty food isn’t good for their kidneys and sugar can cause tooth decay.’
